It was early dawn.
The sun peeked from the skyline, golden rays slowly creeping forward to bask the forest in its gentle, golden glow. In the backdrop, the blend of orange and blues accented the gentle yellow of the rising sun. It made for a glorious dawn, showing nature's beauty as the sun steadily creeped up the sky.
Dream watched the sunrise with a gentle smile, hands busying itself in the gentle array of flowers beneath him. He was situated in a field, one filled with a bountiful amount of flowers. The field stretched on for a bit, colors filling his vision everywhere he looked. It was a beautiful sight indeed, especially with the sunrise casting it in a golden tint.
Though... Dream was worried about one thing. Yesterday night, he had invited Ink to come with him to this flower field early in the morning. However, Come time to fetch the other, Ink was not there. Instead, all that was left was a note telling him that he'd catch up with the guardian.
That was a few hours ago.
Now, Dream sat alone in the flower field, left only with his thoughts. That was never a good thing. Negative thoughts and phrases started to bubble up in his mind, but he pushed them back once more⎯ replacing them with artificial positivity.
He, as the guardian of light and positivity, should not be feeling so negative. Yet it was so hard not to, not when it seemed like Ink wouldn't even make it in time. All Dream wanted was to spend a few precious hours with a friend⎯ was that too much to ask for?
Dream spent a few more minutes simply sitting in the field, feeling his cape flow in the gentle breeze that passed by them. The flowers gently sang to comfort the sorrow Dream tried desperately to hide.
He watched through half lidded eyes as the sun finally set in the sky.
As he was just preparing to leave however, he heard the faint noise of ink swirling in the air, before a body tumbled in the ground. Dream immediately snapped his head to the noise, feeling his heart lighten immediately when he sees Ink.
"Ink!" Dream exclaimed, leaping at the other, not caring as grass clung to his clothes and ink smudging his hands and cheek. Not when Ink was here, and he'd actually kept his promise to him.
The guardian of creation let out an oof when dream jumped on him, but he quickly recovered and started to pat the other's back when they settled on the floor. Dream clutched on him, almost like a lifeline.
"Dream!" He exclaimed, eyes a yellow star and a pink circle respectively. "Sorry I was so late, heh⎯ got caught up in some multiverse drama." Dream leans back, now kneeling on the ground before Ink. "Though I have all the time in the world to tell you about it. Anyways, what do we do?"
The guardian of positivity grins, a blinding one. He gently grabs a hold of Ink's hand before tugging him towards an area of the field. "Here, I'll show you."
He sits ink down on the grass, before walking over to a few flowers and plucking them, Ink watching him curiously. When Dream deems that he's gathered enough flowers, He walks back over to him and drops the flowers onto his lap. "We'll be making flower crowns," Dream explains.
"Ooh," Ink eyes the flowers in curiosity. "I think I've heard of that before. It's a courting tradition, right?"
Dream's cheeks flush a golden hue, frantically waving his arms around. "No! I mean⎯ Yes, but!" He stumbled over his words, "Ugh... what I mean to say is⎯ friends can do it to. You know, without any romantic intentions or whatever."
Ink only watched him with gentle amusement, mouth twitching into a grin at the other's golden face and stuttered words. "Don't worry, I get it! Are you going to teach me how to make those things?"
That stops Dream in his tracks, blinking for a few moments before nodding, a smile on his face as he picks up a few flowers. "Ah, right! So first off..."
Ink watches intently as Dream rattled off the steps, seeing how the other almost effortlessly weaved together the flowers into a crown-like shape, made up of pink camellias and white carnations. His eyes roam back up to Dream's face, seeing how passionate and happy he was in making these silly crowns.
He likes seeing Dream happy.
(A strange, unfamiliar feeling blooms in his chest, knowing that just being by Dream's side made him so happy. Why?)
"Now it's your turn!" The other exclaims, snapping him out of his thoughts. Dream placed the crown of flowers on ink's head, the creator patting it as he stared in awe. "This is great, Dream!" He exclaims.
The guardian of positivity nods his head as he blushes a golden light, a silent thanks. Ink stands up and pats his clothes before looking around to choose what flowers to use.
Slowly, he comes to a patch of flowers and picks a batch of yellow tulips and striped carnations. Holding them in his cupped hands, he walks back and sits down in front of Dream again. "So... this is how you do it right?" He asks with his hands slowly weaving the flowers together.
"Close!" Dream laughs softly, gently hovering his hands over ink's to lead him. "Here, I'll repeat the steps again..."
Ink listens to Dreams gentle voice as they finish making the flower crown, the yellow tulips complementing the striped carnations in a beautiful tangle. He wonders how much more beautiful it would look on Dream.
(And there it was again, the tugging feeling in his chest.)
So, he takes a hold of the flower crown and gently sets it on dream's head, hovering for a few precious moments before leaning back. Ink grins at the golden flush that settled on Dream's cheeks when he leaned away, the other looking and poking the flower crown on his head in awe.
"Pretty great, huh?" He said smugly, a grin on his face as he pulled out a camera from the depths of nowhere. "Come on, let's take a picture!"
Ink pulls Dream towards him And wraps an arm around him, turning the camera towards them before shouting: "Cheese!" and clicking the camera.
He excitedly pulls back and looks at the photo, a fond grin on his face as he looks at Dreams gentle, hesitant smile.
(Beautiful.)
"Well!" Ink clasps his hands happily, standing up and wiping off the dirt before reaching out a hand to Dream. "We better get back to doing our jobs, right?" He says as Dream grabs his hand to help himself up. "I really enjoyed this though. Do you think we could do it some time again?"
Dream excitedly nods, enthusiastic energy radiating off of him. "Of course! Just tell me when you'll be free, and I'll plan it out."
"Great! Now come on, Swap must be worried." He chuckles, thinking of Swap flipping the entire base upside down trying to find them. Ink grabs a hold of his paintbrush and makes a small stroke in the air.
Without thinking, he offers a hand to dream. "Well?"
Dream flushes a pretty gold again, before hesitantly taking his hand. "Alright, let's go back."
They step into the ink together, hand in hand.
