•Maelin POV•
The sun. The delicious warmth it kissed across my skin felt like pure bliss. There were no clouds. Just endless clear, baby blue skies. I give a small smile to the soft warmth of the breeze, as it whispers sweet nothings to everything in reach. 'Such perfection. Such bliss. Father was widely mistaken about the human kingdom.' I think to myself, frowning. He was always hard on me about my interest in wanting to see the human kingdom. I was always told that it was a horrid place. Full of nothing but greed, heartbreak, death, and sorrow.I toss my long white, mane over my left shoulder, looking at my surroundings. Traveling from my home to the shores of the human kingdom, was about a weeks journey.
The human kingdom was very different from back home. Everything was..above the water. Do the human never need to replenish themselves by being in the water?
I let my mind wander as I slowly make my way closer to the shore. There were no people on this part of sands, so I don't need to worry about hiding my tail all the way.
I lean back against my hands and just feels the cool waves come up to the middle of my waist, and them pull away softly. Letting the waves crash softly against my waist. I look over the water and think of home for a moment.
My rebel against Fathers orders of not leaving the domain have surely put me as a fugitive amongst the tribe now.
"No use in thinking about it now. I'm long gone and they won't ever be able to come find me even if they wanted to." I say to myself. Home is more than half way across this ocean. Memories flood my mind as hot tears prick my eyes.
I wipes my tears with the back of my hand while shaking my head softly. "Don't do this to yourself Maelin. This is what you wanted."
Enjoying the pure bliss of the sun and the waves, I hear movement in the sands behind me. I stiffen. I was sure that no humans would want this particular area, as most walked past and went onto where more humans were gathered in groups.
Cautiously, I look behind me to see a tall figure. As I turned around more, they were a lot closer than I had thought they were.
It was a male human. Walking with his head down, looking at something block like in his hand.
Tall was almost an understatement. He was a lot bigger than I pictured any human to be. He was dressed in all black. It looked very pleasing since his hand and what part of his face I could see was fair. Pale even. 'Is skin like that normal here?' I thought looking down at my own.
The skin from my hips up was a bronze like color. Darker than everyone in my tribe other than my mother.
I look back up, but he isn't looking at his phone anymore. He looking at me, but still walking. I slowly start to panic.
My tail.
I keep eye contact with him but slowly push myself in the water. I can't let him see me fully. Who knows how he will react. He is human after all, and I've only just gotten to their kingdom.
"Hey, hey. I'm not gonna hurt you." He calls out putting his hands up and slowly crouching, getting level with where I am. I look at him curiously.
He should be disgusted with me. Everyone back home always is.
He's a lot more handsome up close though. His eyes are as blue as the ocean. His skin is so light and fair. The scar over his eye is visible. A battle scar most likely but it makes him more handsome.
He moves closer. I snap myself from my thoughts and move back. The water coming up to a little above my elbows now.
"Hey. I said it was ok. I'm not gonna hurt you. I may look scary, but I promise I wouldn't hurt something as fragile as you." He says. His voice deep but soft. The sound almost rumbles my chest as he speaks. I look at him. I soften my gaze on him.
Well he is a human of this kingdom. And with how utterly handsome he is, he must be a prince of some sort here. So I would imagine that there might be some that fear him because of his high power.
"What's your name, pretty?" He says reaching his hand out to me.
"Pretty?" I look at him, my eyes wide. No one other than my parents have said that to me. I was always considered the outcast to others because of my hair, tail, and eye indifference with the rest of the tribe.
He smiles. "Yes. All though pretty would be an understatement for you." He says. He moves closer, steeping into the water towards me. I try to move back. "Wait." I look up at him. He was so close now while he held his hand out to me.
He wants me to come out? This must be a joke. He's so close that he must be able to see the rest of me, even if the water is moving around us. Before I decide on anything, I need to know who he is at the most. He's a prince none the less, but is he trustworthy?
"Maelin."
"I'm sorry?" The prince says, looking directly into my eyes.
I look back at him and smile softly. "My name is Maelin."
