Isa never got to see her sister die in the arena. When she dragged herself to the screen, dread in her stomach, Lesia's banner was displayed on the screen, and she was gone. The dread fell from her stomach and agony made itself at home.

Hope is fickle and Isa's should've died with Lesia, but it remained. It remained because a weck prior when her sister was reaped, her best friend was too. Her best friend, Arlo who she'd known for 12 years. For Isa it felt like a lifetime and a day.

Buried under grief and suspended by hope, Isa was desperate for the hand of her friend to pull her out. So, when the tributes continued to dwindle and Arlo was still breathing, she was breathing with him, paralysed but alive.

Then Arlo wins and it feels like he died. He moves into the Victors Village and lsa wishes he'd stayed in the arena. People look into her eyes, and they ache with the sight of Lesia who haunts Isa's features. Isa can't see her sister. She never even got to see her die. If Arlo looked into her eyes, she knows he'd only see her, he'd relive all their memories and he'd remember their lifetime that wasn't.

But Arlo never comes, and Isa doesn't know which grief devastates more.

Time will never stop but Isa does, she becomes static. Never enough time in her life but too much has already transpired, and she can't keep up, not that she's even running.

Until the 68th Hunger Games, when her name is called and floating through time isn't an option. Isa has one last year.

One year that will feel like a hundred.

DISCLAIMER

i do not own the hunger games (obviously) or the original 'hunger games' idea, districts, etc. this is an au of sorts as it is my own characters and storylines, i don't think there will be any mentions of katniss & the war/resistance. this takes place 6 years before all of that.

throughout the story there will be mentions of death, murder, blood/gore (possibly more). i'm not sure how brutal i'll be cause i haven't written much blood/gore before but it's the hunger games so who knows.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

as the hunger games resurges, so do i!!! um but i'll probably only post this if i have chapters pre-written cause that's the only way i can guarantee consistent(ish) uploads. i haven't been fully active on wattpad since like 2021??? and my writing style has definitely changed a lot.

since starting uni i've realised i need some sort of creative outlet so i've decided to actually try and finish a fic. also i have wroetospotter on standby to shout at me so maybe i'll manage it this time.

faceclaims may be updated as the story goes on. i'm not sure if i'll bother though cause i can get caught up in the 'aesthetics' of a book rather than just writing.
