Gene POV
This is pretty frustrating, I hated that I had to wait for Aphmau to get back from class just so I could start pranking her. Just as I was about to leave, a pair of footsteps finally approached towards the corridor where I usually wait to trip her. Only for it to be someone completely different. A high-pitched, fork-scraping type scrawl came from Kawaii-chan who had taken the fall instead of Aphmau who is now assisting her friend up. I could tell that Aphmau was about to speak up for KC, however it surprised both of us when KC decided to scold me.
A bright red painted her face, she was obviously embarrassed, but quickly shouldered me and scurried to her locker. Aphmau pouted at me and decided to lecture how I should be nicer so that I'd have friends blah blah blah, I was more interested in how KC had the courage to even stand up for herself. Usually when I think of KC, I think of a pink (obviously), timid, stupid cat; although I was taken back from the surprising back-talk, it piqued my curiosity on what else she's capable of.
Everyone rushed to lunch and the line quickly piled up, of course I cut in front of everyone then picked up a tray of pizza. I've stopped within my tracks to notice a brilliant pink color frosting cupcake that's been decorated with rainbow sprinkles that sits in front of KC. I grimaced and walked over to snatch it, KC scowled and started to flail her arms to reach it, but alas she grunted, "Gene you're such a pain in the tail!" I chuckled, "come on I thought cats were more agile than that," I teased while watching her struggle to take back the cupcake. "It'd be a shame if someone were to eat it huh?" I took a bite and my eyes widened, it was actually really good and I've never really gone out of my way for anything sweet. "Gene what the heck! Oh my Irene.." I could see KC's face softened, probably gave up.
"This is..good, hey where'd you get these?" I asked. Her ears twitched, her head perked up and her golden eyes shined. "I actually made it!!! Why?" I swallowed my regret, I immediately felt shy which is weird because I'm usually like this with Aphmau so being shy towards KC felt wrong. "Psh nothing!!! It's just so obscenely gross that it made me want to throw up. I asked because I want to make sure I avoid whichever place made it," I stuck my tongue out at her and pulled on my eyelid. "Um, but didn't you just say it was good-" "nope you're hearing things, get your ears checked you stinking cat," I blurted out.
Kawaii-chan's excited expression quickly scrunched into an angry face, "and YOU need to keep your hands to yourself, I was saving that cupcake for Aphmau-senpai, I thought it was fine because you seemed to like it but you're just a bi-" The wall crumbled and collapsed next to us as Zane appeared before us. "KAY-SEE I HEARD YOU WERE UPSET, I'M HERE NOW, WHOSE UPSETTING YOU? LET ME AT EM," he explained between coughs, as he dusted off his clothes. Ugh, I was hoping it would just be us for now, "whatever, I don't have time for this," I walked out the cafeteria as I heard their voices trail farther away.
Kawaii-chan's pov
Zane was eyeing the direction that Gene exited, he sighed and apologized for being late, but when is Zane never late anyways? He huffed, "Kawaii-chan, why was Gene even bothering you? He only bothers Aphmau 'cause let's be honest, he only causes mayhem to her or other guys I guess." Tilting my head, I rolled my eyes upward, "uhh..Kawaii-chan doesn't know ehe.." I fidgeted my fingers, that's all I could say to him. Today might be one of the only days I've even interacted with Gene, it's usually me helping Aphmau whenever I see him bully her, or watching them hang out together on very rare occasions. "Ah, Gene took Kawaii-chan's cupcake!" "HE WHAT-" I tugged on Zane's sleeve, "Zane it's alright! Kawaii-chan always makes them in batches, Kawaii-chan will give some to Aphmau-senpai as an apology, and of course give some to you," I beamed a smile at him. His shoulders relaxed, "o-oh, really? That's nice of you Kay-see ahaha.." he looked the other direction.
I walked out of the school and pondered if I should wait for Aphmau, she is class president and stays on campus to fulfill duties that's given to her. I plopped down on the steps and pulled out my emergency cupcake! Such sweet sugary goodness, the love of my life! "D'aww what's this, you got another one for me, you shouldn't have," Gene came from around the corner holding a spray paint bottle, and he hovered above me. I rolled my eyes and took a bite in front of him, "Kawaii-chan thinks that you're lonely so you have nothing better to do than bother her when Aphmau's not around," I sneered at him. "Wow." He stood there awkwardly watching me eat, so I stared back at him. "That just reminded me, why not look at what I've done to the school," he smirked, beckoning me to follow him. I quickly finished and followed him, only to see KC'S CUPCAKES SUCK painted all over the side of the stairs.
My eye twitched as I cracked my neck towards Gene who was laughing at me, I gave him the reaction he wanted which highly upsets me. "If Kawaii-chan's cupcakes suck so much then why did you take it!" I snapped at him, he couldn't contain himself as he wiped tears away from his cheek. "Kawaii-chan will fold you like an omelet!" I took a step forward and felt my shoe kick a rock, I stumbled trying to control my balance, ugh but I fell to the ground. He howled even louder and hugged his stomach, "oooh Kay-see you're so hilarious, you can't even be threatening when you want to." To my surprise he held his hand out, I was hesitant to take it so I stood up by myself, his eyes widened and he looked in a different direction, "thanks, GENE, now I know why Aphmau-senpai doesn't even like you, you're just jealous because Aphmau-senpai loves Kawaii-chan." He stood there and stared at me, I felt nervous because I wasn't sure if I took it too far. "Hey..Gene, Kawaii-chan doesn't mean it, Kawaii-chan just got very upset and-" I stuttered, but he started breaking into laughter again, "how cute."
I can feel the blood rush through my face. I didn't know what to say. It was so sudden, I angrily looked at Gene trying to find my words but he quickly escaped laughing in the distance. I've noticed Aphmau walking down the stairs with Aaron, "oh Kawaii-chan hey!" she rushed over to my side then looked at the wall. "Ugh dang it, was it Gene?" I nodded and sighed, "today was a weird day Aphmau-senpai," I whimpered, hugging her, wrapping my tail around her leg. "Hey Aph, I know how much work you've done today, I'll clean up this graffiti alright?" "o-oh thank you Aaron, that means so much, but I could stay to clean it up too, I like spending time with you I mean um!" I winked at Aphmau, she noticed this and quickly got flustered, "oookay, Kawaii-chan can walk with Aphmau-senpai another day! Bye Aphmau-senpai, bye Aaron!" I skipped away and squealed so loud next to a tree. I can't believe it!!! Kawaii-chan can feel her heart beating so fast for Aphmau-senpai and Aaron ehehe!!!
"What's gotten you so jumpy?" I let out an embarrassed squeak that only made me blush harder, Gene stared at me. "Do NOT make fun of Kawaii-chan for that! Gene already insulted Kawaii-chan's cupcakes!" He smiled and walked closer to me, I took a step back, making sure to keep a safe distance from him. "You're very fun to be around," I rolled my eyes and walked back on the dirt path, "and you're very annoying," I replied. He continued walking with me, teasing each physical trait about me, and how disturbingly pink I was. We reached my place, to my surprise Zane was waiting outside of my porch. "Oh Kay-see I've got a... what is THAT doing here?" He gestured at Gene, "exCUSE me?" Gene looked at Zane. Come on think, I have to break this tension somehow. "Kawaii-chan was um..escorting Gene because Aphmau-senpai was so tired after her work! So Kawaii-chan decided to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't bully her!" I quickly explained.
Zane raised an eyebrow, I'm pretty sure he didn't believe it but he seemed to brush it off, "well come on Kay-see, we- well haha I- have many things planned for today!" he excitedly explained. "So, if you could be so kind, how about you escort YOURSELF out," he glared at Gene. "I didn't like being around her anyways," he scoffed then took off. I watched him walk away then shifted my focus on Zane who was getting all giddy. I smiled and let out a sigh of relief, "today has been so tiring on Kawaii-chan!" "It must have, having to be with him all the time can tire anyone out, I mean look at Aphmau," we both laughed and headed inside.
