Gene's pov
The teacher fell asleep on us again and everyone started chatting with each other. I looked over to my left and noticed that Kawaii-chan was doodling on the page of her notebook. I've also noticed Zane getting up to walk over to her, I quickly got up and cut him off then stood in front of KC's desk. She stopped drawing and quickly flipped her notebook page, "did you need something?" "I need you," "um..okay?" "Come on, that was pretty smooth! You can't blame a guy for trying huh?" she scrunched up her face and let out a laugh, "that's so silly Gene!" I laughed with her and turned my attention to her notebook page, "so..you were drawing something huh?" I smirked. "Yeah, what about it?" "why not show Gene-chan?" "don't mock Kawaii-chan!! Also it would be Gene-kun."
Doing what I know best, I yoinked the notebook, KC quickly got up from her seat to take it back while yelling at me. "Uh oh, my hand slipped!" I flipped to the page that she was drawing on and it was..Aaron and Aphmau? "What kind of sick freak are you Kay-see?" I asked between laughs as I looked at the exaggerated, expressive anime-esque eyes, the excessive blushing, and the hearts that surrounded the two. "Gene, that is Kawaii-chan's private drawing, you can't just take it from her!" "OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH, I've had it with you messing with my- with Kawaii-chan!" I heard Zane behind me as he smacked the notebook out of my hand. "I apologize Kay-see, I didn't want to get it dirty.." "Kawaii-chan forgives you Zane," she looked at me and snarled. "YOU! Zane shouldn't apologize for what YOU started." "Aww I'm sorry sweetheart." "Don't call her that! You're so lucky that Aphmau is attending a meeting."
I flicked his forehead and ignored him, taking a good look at KC. She completely ignored our argument because she's back drawing again. I took a seat next to her while Zane pulled in another chair to go in between us, we both had a staring contest and I puffed air onto his face to make him blink. "Sooo, Kawaii-chan what are you going to do after school?" "Hm, I was going to walk with Aphmau-senpai but sadly she's going to have after school activities again with Aaron." I intervened between them, "that means you're free right, how about we hang out and you can show me how to make those atrocious cupcakes, they could be useful for a prank." "You don't even find them gross."
Just as soon as I mentioned pranks, Ein popped in to boast about how his next joke would blow our minds. "Hey Kay-see, remember when you pranked Aphmau? That was sooo fun! You should definitely help on the next one I have planned for someone," he nudged her with his elbow. "Can you guys leave Kawaii-chan alone! Kawaii-chan wants to daydream about her ships!" she yelled at us, Zane however got up and tattled us to leave her alone. I glanced over, "hey Kay-seeeee," she went silent and didn't reply. "Leave, Gene," Zane hushed.
After class I quickly got up to annoy KC, she was still busy shoving her materials into her inventory and rolled her eyes at me. "Hey Kay-see, you're still free after school right?" "Um.." she was hesitating. "I know, how about you make those cupcakes.." I leaned in, "please? I'll even help. I don't actually find them disgusting, they're bearable." She chuckled, "aww maybe another time, Zane wanted to hang out after school so Kawaii-chan agreed, he just asked me when you guys left." "What?!" My eyes trailed over to Zane's desk which is now empty. "Kay-see you got to hang out with him the other day, how about you ditch that edgelord, why settle for zero when you can go with a hero." KC squinted her eyes, "another time Gene." She walked out the classroom door, leaving me feeling defeated.
"So what was that?" Ein looked at me questionably, "are you really Gene? Is this a prank because if so you're doing a really good job whoever you are." I groaned at his stupidity, "Ein you're an idiot." I smacked him out of embarrassment leaving him to wince in pain in the classroom. I don't know why, but I just wanted to hang out with Kawaii-chan, she's been running in my head for a while. Out of frustration I opened a random locker and slammed it, "take that loser!" I looked around, Katelyn and Kim backed away then rushed towards the library. I walked out of the school and decided to go to my spot where I would practice bullying, while walking into the forest I spotted a black/pink checkered blanket with an umbrella shading two figures.
Kawaii-chan's pov
I cut a slice of strawberry cake and delicately placed it on top of Zane's plate, scooching it next to the cookies. "Now isn't this a relaxing outing?" he asked as he carefully shoveled the cake with a fork. "Kawaii-chan loves picnics, they're so fun, Kawaii-chan likes hanging out with Zane." He starts stuttering and tries to play it cool. I honestly love teasing him because his reactions are always so funny, he likes me so much that it's painfully obvious! Just then we saw Gene walk up to us, looking down at our banquet as he laughed, "are you guys playing pretend? This is too good." I could tell Zane was about to kill him but I've motioned him to stay calm.
Gene knelt down to take the cake from Zane's plate to eat it in front of him, Zane quickly got up and started smacking him while Gene started fighting back. Personally, I didn't want to deal with it so I watched while finishing my food.
"This was supposed to be me and Kawaii-chan's day together!"
"I don't really care!"
"Then why are you so obsessed with getting between us?"
"Cause I'm mean, that's what I do."
Finally, I decided to jump in to stop the two, Zane accidentally hit me in the process then let out a loud gasp. He starts apologizing, looking down in shame. "Wow you take him out on this lovely picnic then he just does that? I actually know how to treat ladies," Gene said with confidence. "You two are so ridiculous, Kawaii-chan is just going to go home and make cake!" I start cleaning everything while Zane tries to stop me from leaving, however to no avail he lets me go as I hear them argue from afar.
Gene's pov
"You're so irritating, first you insult Kay-see's cupcakes, then you look through her private belongings, now this!" Zane yelled at me. "You know, it was already difficult dealing with you when you were bothering Aphmau, but stealing Kawaii-chan's attention from me is taking it way too far." I just stood in front of him catching my breath, still pretty beaten by Zane, he really takes his picnics with KC seriously. But what I was really thinking about was how he was right, since Aphmau is class president she hasn't been able to go out as often. However, I'm unsure why I chose KC out of literally anyone else. Sure she's cute, it's literally in her name, but I'm just as irritated as Zane- knowing that she's all I've been thinking of lately- it's so weak of me. It's a familiar feeling I have- or had- with Aphmau. "Aren't you going to say anything?" "I don't want to spend time with you edgelord, smell ya later," I left swiftly and found myself at KC's doorstep.
I eagerly knocked at the door, hoping she would just open, I noticed a pair of ears peeking through her window then swiped back inside. "Kay-see can you open up?" "No, Kawaii-chan doesn't want to talk to you right now," her muffled voice bled through the door. I hesitated, "could you please open the door?" "uhh what else?" "with a cherry on top?" To my surprise, she opened the door, just as I was about to speak she placed a cupcake down on the small table that was next to her door. "There," she looked at me expectantly, I was unsure what to do so I just accepted it. "This..is going to be so stupid of me, but uh.." "you don't have to apologize, Kawaii-chan forgives you and Zane," she was about to close the door but I stuck my foot out just in time. "Hey, do you want to like- hang out tomorrow?" I quickly asked. Her ears twitched, "hmm, okay-" I stopped her, "just us?" she murmured something, she started pacing back and forth then looked at me, "yeah sure."
