The lycan inside
~
Rexton
~Rexton couldn't get out of there fast enough. Bodies danced and slithered around him like snakes, but they wore no scales. They wore the fur of lycans, the many shades of thick, tough fur. Their glitters and sequences all blurred together into streams of flares and the music finally drowned out as two doors gave him a way out.
Rexton's body slammed into a wall, his legs giving out and he fell down. Exhaling every last breath out of his lungs and into the thick air. He couldn't hear himself breathe, let alone think.
The doors of the nightclub closed and Rexton buried his head into his hands. He didn't care if Cole was the one to see him like this. He didn't care if he saw the disarray and the unravelling madness, as long as it wasn't Adriana.
"She—she went into my dreams," Rexton ushered thoughtlessly, a sudden tightness in his throat as if his airway was being cut off. "She distorted it all."
Cole scanned up and down the illuminated hallway. There was nothing but sublime paintings attached to burgundy coloured walls that bleed bloodily with the candles flaming beside them.
No wandering guards or servants.
Rexton was comforted by the thick and woolly carpet he sat upon that wove in different movements of patterns that flowed.
Cole stared down at Rexton after scoping out his surroundings and his jaw was set, reluctance showing.
"She did the same to me," Cole confessed in a harsh whisper and shoved his hands into his black trousers, rocking on his heels. "Adriana is a woman of many talents."
Rexton shuddered. Hardly a woman at all. The firstborn daughter of Lilith.
What did that make Rexton? Ringing resounded in his ears and he didn't want to waste another second on it.
"Come on, you should see your brother," Cole clipped and gestured for him to get to his feet.
Lycus. His brother. The person who traded himself over to save Rexton. The one person who was brave enough to see Rexton for what he was, for what he could be and who put it him away for it.
That snapped Rexton out of it. The ringing faded, the anxiety lessened only an inch and Rexton found his footing.
"She gave you dreams of killing your mate too?" Rexton mumbled, curving his head to the side in nervousness.
Cole shook his head and gestured down the hall. They began walking, blaring out the festivities of the nightclub and headed in a direction only Cole would know.
"Nah, I killed my mate by then."
Rexton frowned, biting the inside of his cheek at the mention of his dead mate. Cole didn't show a sigh of sadness over her, not even a waver of distress. He showed more emotion to the uttering of death, the thrill and hunt for it than her.
Rexton swallowed the lump building in his throat. He side-eyed Cole, probing deeper for inspection but the lycan gave nothing away. No care, no remorse or a sign of guilt.
He would have to ask, but he wasn't sure he would want to know the clean-cut, precise answer.
"What dreams, then?"
