Briar
As I look up from my phone seeing my friends walk towards me I push my hood down to cover my face.
My puffy red eyes and lack of a genuine smile gives everything away.
But by the looks of it, they already know.
Word gets around fast. Especially when you date a known guy.
Grey was popular but not for athletics or anything. People at the school either wanted to be him or be with him. Since that wasn't possible, they resorted to being his friend or accuatince.
Grey and I knew of each other almost our whole lives. So if wasn't some cheesy high school romance, or a cringy pick up line that made me head over heels but it was over mutual connection. We were friends.
At a party in my freshman year he knew I had the fattest crush on him. I knew he didn't like me back because I didn't look or act like the older girls.
But after I plopped down on the couch next to him he put his arm around me like usual, then suddenly but gently grabbed my face and turned it towards himself. We just stared into each others eyes. His hand was soft and warm and cupped the whole side of my face. He looked as though he was investigating each little inch of my round face for some reason.
It was intimate. I don't know what was going through his head. But I had to find out.
We stared way longer than normal friends would at each other.
He might just be doing this in a friendly way. He can't like me? Why me? Why is he doing this? I am definitely over thinking this.
He then brought his mouth to hover over my ear and began speaking.
But overflown with butterflies, nerves, and excitement, I couldn't hear a single thing.
I could just feel his hot breath on the side of my face and it made me weak. He made me feel weak.
He was supposed to be just a friend and he made me feel weak.
The only thing I heard was him saying "...home". So I nodded my head and followed him out of the house party.
