. . . . . . . . . .

Today is going to be perfect, Freddy Freeman thought as he changed into a grey tee shirt with a green arrow tip; the symbol of Green Arrow. Nothing can ruin this day for me.

He still couldn't really believe he was going out on a date. Heck, he couldn't even believe she agreed to even see him after the fool he made of himself.

Freddy cringed, remembering the encounter like it was yesterday, which it was.

. . . . .

Freddy hobbled along the school's hallway, trying to mind his own business when he saw her. She was easily the most gorgeous girl Freddy had ever seen despite being stuck to a locker.

A locker door had slammed on her black French braid, pinning her to the wall. The combination lock was just out of reach of her fingers and she couldn't move without ripping out her hair.

Freddy started to move over to her when he was stopped by Brett and Burke Breyer.

"Hey Freeman, where are you going?" Brett asked, ripping Freddy's crutch out of his hands. Freddy stumbled, leaning against the wall of lockers.

"What's wrong, cripple? Nothing to say?" Burke asked, bending the crutch on his knee.

Freddy stumbled forward, reaching for his crutch. Brett kicked his good leg, sending him to the ground.

"Hey!" The girl stuck to the locker shouted. "Leave him alone!"

Burke and Brett turned, noticing her for the first time. The two smiled, walking over to her. Burke tossed Freddy's crutch to the side and leaned against the lockers next to the girl, Brett doing the same on the other side.

"Hey yourself," Brett said. "You seeing anyone?"

"Back off," she said.

"We're just trying to get to know you." Burke put his arm around her waist.

The girl grabbed his wrist and slammed her heel on his shoe. Burke yelled out in pain, clutching his injured foot. Freddy grabbed his crutch and slammed it into Brett's crotch, making him scream in a high pitched noise that only dogs could hear.

"You're so going to regret that Freeman," Burke growled.

Freddy felt someone grab onto his arm and helped him stand up.

"Threatening Mr. Freeman again?" Mr. Geckle asked.

Freddy stumbled over to the girl. "Combo?"

"No sir." Brett and Burke grumbled.

"01-08-04," she said.

Click.

She sighed with relief, running her fingers through her hair.

"Thanks," she said. "I'm Azalea."

"Freddy." He leaned forward onto his crutch, forgetting it was broken. Brett and Burked laughed as he sprawled out on the floor.

"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Azalea knelt down and helped him stand up.

Freddy felt his face flush. "I'm fine, thanks."

Azalea smiled at him and pulled a sheet of paper out of her jean's pocket. "Can you help me find the library?"

"Sure, did you know that hundreds of priceless scrolls were lost when the Library of Alexandria burned down?"

Azalea blinked, her smile gone. Freddy got even more red.

"Well, the scrolls themselves weren't really 'priceless'," Azalea said with a small smile. "But the information on them was."

Freddy smiled and tried to limp forward, his crutch useless.

"Here, take my hand," Azalea said. "I'll help you walk and we'll get that fixed up."

Freddy felt like his face was going to burst into flames, but he took her hand.

"I'm looking for fishing books," Azalea said as they walked. "My younger sister wants to go but I don't know the first thing about it."

"Well, I could take you guys," Freddy suggested. "My Grandpa Jacob was a fisherman. He taught me everything I know."

"You would do that?" Azalea asked.

Freddy nodded. The two stopped in front of the library doors. Azalea started to bend Freddy's crutch back.

"Does tomorrow work for you?" Azalea asked. "Maybe ten?"

"Six thirty."

"At night?"

"In the morning."

Azalea cocked an eyebrow, handing him the crutch. "Why so early?"

"Best time to fish is when the sun comes up," Freddy said with a smirk. "Though, I understand if that interferes with your beauty sleep."

Azalea laughed. "That works for me."

They exchanged numbers right as the bell rang.

"It's a date." Azalea said with a smile.
