SIMPLY TWISTED

PROLOGUE

I'm glad you came around reading this, thanks for all the support. My updates aren't quite scheduled as I'm juggling writing and studies. However I'll let you know if that changes. If anything weekly updates will be preferable.

"But mom! I promised you didn't I? I'll always communicate and I'm pretty sure I heard you say you'll do just fine without me around, a few days back." Lexie yelled walking across their corridor.

"Well, that was before it became so surreal hun, I can't believe you're really going." Kayla pouted.

"Don't you want me to leave Marshpal? Have you changed your mind? Because if you have...I can always take up the other scholarship for Middlesbrough University up East. It's not too far from here I believe." Lexie said guilting her distressed mother. Kayla had been ransacking her bag for her ticket, she paused looking into her daughter's shimmering eyes.

"Goodness Lexie! I can never deter you from pursuing your dreams, I mean; what kind of parent would I be?" She muttered, holding her by her clavicle motherly.

"Then what is it mom?" She asked, her voice feigning.

"It's not that I don't want you to leave Marshpal dear, it's just...I just don't want you to leave me." Kayla confessed embracing her.

"Mom, you'll be fine, I want to believe you will. Don't worry." Lexie counselled, hugging her tighter.

"But I have to...what if you're bullied out there and I'm nowhere close to help. Huh? What if the other students make fun of your neck support brace or if you fall sick...or..."

"Mom you're babbling and being a little paranoid." She interjected to disrupt her hysteria.

"Am I really?" Kayla throttled releasing her from the embrace.

"Uh, yeah definitely, you should relax." Lexie advised playfully.
"Maybe I will...once I hear that you're safe and sound in your hostel." She stated adjusting her black shoal.

"But mom you should remember that campus is in no way similar to high school." Lexie muttered opening her packet of gum.

"Yeah, right," Kayla concurred, "Just focus on your studies when you go out there love. Fight any peer pressure or temptations that may come along the way. Especially those that entail crooked teenage boys dearest, believe me they're no good." She cautioned, Lexie rolled her eyes.

"Mom...we already had this talk, I'll keep my word." She mumbled concealing her grouse. Indeed they'd already had the sex talk, Kayla had sensitised her on abstinence. So much so she'd used her life as an example; she ended having her out of wedlock, that story made her squirm.

"Good," Kayla smiled kissing her forehead.

"Great! I hope I haven't forgotten anything," Lexie mumbled glancing up the spiral stairs. "I'll miss my room and this place...Cold Stone. Marshpal I guess but mostly, you mom. I'll miss you." She said wrinkling her forehead.

"I'll miss you more," Kayla whimpered. "I wish I was the one to drop and see you off at the airport." She snivelled.

"It's alright mommy...I understand, you know? Work is important, I wouldn't recommend you get laid off when I'm still highly dependent on your income for my upkeep." She said simpering.
