Hajime and I snickered to each other, doing all that we could to stay as quiet as possible as we crept up the stairs - avoiding the creaky one with expert precision - and down the hall. We reached the door, and didn't bother knocking. Into the room we crept, and across the space we went.

"Toru," I whispered. "Toru."

"Mm," he hummed noncommittally, his eyebrows scrunching together before relaxing back into his bedding.

"Come on, Tor," I implored. "Open your eyes."

He hummed once more, gathering the blanket up by his chest lazily. His face was completely relaxed, his breathing soft. I eased myself to sit cross-legged just before him, because it was obvious by now that this would take some doing.

"Damn," Hajime hissed beside me. "The hell is going on here? Your voice that soothing to him?"

I shrugged, but I couldn't keep the heat from rushing to my cheeks even if I tried. "I guess so," I responded quietly, meeting his eyes briefly before looking back at the slumbering boy. "Toru," I tried again. "Wake up."

"(Y/n)-chan," he murmured, his voice hushed and soft and his eyes remaining closed all the while.

"We've got lots planned for today," I said, hoping it would entice him to wake up. It didn't, but a lazy, sleepy smile curled on his lips and the sight of it made me smile, too. "We can't start any of it until you wake up, Tor."

"Maybe I don't want to," he mumbled sleepily, his eyes beginning to flutter all the same. I don't know why but I held my breath, as though it might disturb him as he came to his senses gradually and woke up. "But anything for you, (Y/n)-chan..."

It took him a few moments, but he at last opened his eyes. With the sunlight streaming into the room, he was blinded temporarily and he snapped his eyes shut again. I lifted one of my arms, blocking the rays from hitting his face, and I could see the confusion reach his face before he even opened his eyes again.

And when they did, those admittedly stunning eyes of chocolate brown that were simultaneously as easy to read as a children's story yet as complex as the fantasy epics of old, they settled on my face. They were covered with the bleary filter of sleepiness, of a state of distinct un-awakeness; and he blinked it away.

When at last his eyes were clear, he opened them once more and they met my own and... he looked more confused than before. As if thinking his earlier vision of me was little more than that - a vision - he might have thought that in reality, I was not really here. But now that he knew I was awake, and that I was here...

He yelped, sitting up straight as a rod and covering himself with his blanket for all the good that would do. I chuckled lightly and Hajime laughed loudly, and I could see the rapid rise and fall of Toru's chest as he worked to recover from his fright.

"I'm sorry, Toru," I said gently. "It was Hajime's idea."

"How did you get into my house?!"

"Just last month when you were 'sick' you told us where your family keeps the spare, for one thing," Hajime said easily, reminding him of what he'd done. "But anyway, your mom let us in. She thought it'd be funny, too."

"Funny to give me a heart attack?"

"For what it's worth, before you woke up you looked really peaceful," I told him, smiling sheepishly, and to his credit, the boy's ears burned bright red at the realization.

"Well, now I'm awake and I want you both out!" When neither of us moved, he pointed towards the door with one hand, holding the blanket to his (clothed) chest with the other. "Out!"
