Angst

where did it all go wrong? were you really that clingy, did he ever feel uncomfortable?

What about the sweet nothings he used to whisper in your ear when you were cuddled up on your couch watching his favorite program?

The way he would hold you tight while lightly sketching shapes on your  exposed waist while gazing at you and grinning.

"I'm going!"  Mason shouted as he left for training while standing by the door with his bags.

Hearing his voice, you moved to kiss him goodbye, your lips were already puckered as you angled your head up, his lips finally meeting yours.

"Take care, and please text me if you need anything." you inquired, a smile reaching your eyes.

What could he possibly need when he was at training? Mason fought the urge to roll his eyes. He simply nodded, as if to say he would, before closing the door behind him.

"i love you, you know?" his voice was soft.

As soon as he returned from training, he wrapped his arms tightly over your body.

Although you didn't formally live together, it undoubtedly seemed like it because you spent the most of your time together in your apartment.

"i love you too, Mase." you said, head leaning against his shoulder, eyes looking at his.

Admittedly, you weren't the only person in this relationship who enjoyed hanging on to and becoming close to their partner. Mason also always felt the need to touch you.

Mason gave you a blank stare and no smile, as if he had just lost a crucial game. But, it wasn't the case. The team's performance in these most recent games was only successful. What gives, and why now?

He said, his voice stoic, sending chills down your spine, "We should break up."

Did you hear that right, "huh?" What was he referring to?

"I don't feel like being in a relationship with you anymore, I'm serious." With each new sentence that came out of his mouth, it felt like he continued to stab you in the heart.

You gave your head a gentle shake as if to shake yourself awake from this nightmare.

"I don't understand, why? Did  anything happened?"which caused Mason let out a groan.

"I need space, and you don't seem to want to give me enough. always holding on to me like it's your last breath, you know?"

You never would have imagined that Mason, your kind and compassionate Mason, would be able to make you feel that little and make you reevaluate your relationship the way he did.

You open your mouth to say something but Mason beats you to it.

"please, just accept it and let go, will you? i'll get the rest of my stuff some other day." He says quickly as if he running out of patience ,he gets up and leaves your home without even bidding goodbye.

He simply left you, heartbroken, with tears streaming down your cheeks as you frantically tried to make sense of what had just transpired.

Well, months have passed, and you have slowly but surely moved past your breakup, even dated a few individuals here and there. You shuddered at the notion of entering another committed relationship since the scars were still too recent.

Despite your best efforts, Mason made it difficult for you to get over him. His face is emblazoned on billboards, there are several photos of him online, and more. You felt like boiling inside, resenting the universe for doing that to you.

you were working on your laptop when your doorbell abruptly rang, breaking your focus. You sigh, get up from your desk, and walk over to the front door, opening it without first checking—a big error.

what was he doing here?

Mason  was standing there, full of pride, staring down at you with doubt in his eyes. He may have come here after training because he was dressed in a tracksuit and a beanie.

Although you wouldn't know, it wasn't as simple as you believed to remain unaware of his rising success.

"hey." Mason is the first to speak up, not being able to bear the awkward silence hovering between any longer.

"I miss us, and I miss you." He murmured, his eyes peeping through his lashes as he searched your face for a reply to his words.

You laugh, roll your eyes, and try to shut the door, but Mason reacts quickly and jams his foot between the door's frame and the door, preventing you from running away from him.

He practically begs, "Please," with a hint of desperation in his voice, "I was a fool, I didn't Think Straight.I thought your love was becoming too clingy."

You wanted to snicker at "am I supposed to care?"

did he really think you'd forgive him? after what he has put you through?

"Mason, I'm not some kind of bed warmer. Because of how you ended things, I won't wait for you to toy around and then return." With serious gaze, you inform him.

Mason sighed and closed his eyes to gather his thoughts before speaking "I understand, but I changed. I've come to the conclusion that I can't succeed without you after all this time, so please, Y/n-"

"Are you done? I have work to get back too." this time, you shut the door completely, turning your back and leaning against it as you inhaled deeply.

Although it stung to reject the man you had once referred to as your life's love, you also felt incredibly proud of yourself for sticking to your values.

Well, you really did miss him, and seeing him again brought up some old feelings. Yet you showed yourself that you were headed in the
right direction. You were advancing.
