Katie's P.O.V.
After telling Mimi she could have another chance, we parted ways with a slightly budding friendship, A buzzing sound takes me out of my thoughts. It takes me several moments to realize that it's coming from my pocket, and happens to be my phone. I shake my head sheepishly.
I think I've found the man for me!-M
I smile at Morgan's text. She has a crush every week, but this sounded more serious then the rest.
Meet me at mine after school? I quickly text back, heading to class.
No problemo-M
I put my phone away walking into my first hour class. Hopefully I have a semi-normal day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not once all day did I see Justin or Fred. Odd, I think, considering they haven't left me alone for the last three days. I climb into my yellow beetle, starting the ancient engine. The short drive home seems to take a lifetime, or maybe that's because I'm excited to see Morgan.
I slowly get out of my car, trying to lock the door and dropping my keys in the process. Just then, I hear Morgan's squeal come from inside my house. She bursts through the front door, running inhumanly fast right at me. Her impact knocks us to the ground, and then we're both laughing so hard we run out of breath, gasping for air.
When we've finally caught our breath, we lay on our backs watching the clouds drift by.
"So," I say, breaking our sudden silence. "Who's this boy you're so desperately in love with?" She punches me lightly in the arm, grinning like a love-sick maniac.
"We're not in love," She says, gazing at the green blades of grass. "but if you must know, it's Justin Leary."
My heart freezes. Morgan couldn't of just said what I think she did. How long has she felt this way? Actually, the bigger question is how long has she even known him? My thoughts drift back to our almost kiss. Could I have feelings for him? There's now way. You can't like two people at once, right?
"Katie, you're not talking." Morgan says in a small voice. I look at her panicked face and soften. How can I hog a boy from her, when I'm not even completey sure where our relationship is going?
"That's great Morgie!" I finally get out, feeling a tinge of remorse for throwing away whatever me and Justin were building.
"We met at the mall!" She begins, getting excited again. "He carried my bags to my car, and then took me out for coffee! Katie, This time I think it's real, you know? I think I've found the right guy."
Every detail is like a jab to my heart. Suddenly, I want to be alone and draw.
"I'm happy for you." I lie through my teeth, silently hoping at any moment she'll jump up and say this is all a joke.
"Oh I'm so glad!" She claps her hands smiling. "I didn't want to break any friend-code or anything."
I look at her then, frowning.
"Friend-code?" I question, scrunching my eyebrows together. Morgan rolls her eyes at me giving a small laugh.
"Yes silly!" She smiles. "No dating boys your friend is crushing on!" This one sentence knocks the breath from me.
"Right, I knew that." I say holding back tears. Why is this upsetting me so much? Could I really like him that strongly?
Morgan doesn't notice my upset state, but instead launches into a full blown play-by-play of her conversation with Justin. Eventually, I just zone-out until she says she has to go.
My phone starts playing the ring-tone I set for Mimi then, something about a crazy bit*ch. I look at it confused, why is Mimi calling me? I hesitantly put it by my ear, answering the call.
"Katie!" Mimi's high pitched voice squeaks. I quickly pull the phone far from my hear, wincing at the volume. But, even though I moved the phone, her voice still comes from the speakers clearly.
"I'm having a little get together at my house after the game, and you're invited!" I almost drop my phone right there. Me? Invited to a world famous Mimi Jones party? This girl must really be considering me a friend.
"I'll be there." I smile into the receiver. I mean, how could I pass up this opportunity.
"Great!" Mimi hangs up then, making the annoying dial tone sound. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
First, Fred gives me the weirdest look, making me suspicious of his thoughts. Then, Mimi wants me to be friends with her. After that, My best friend tells me she thinks she has feelings for a certain boy I might be falling for. Finally, I get invited to a Mimi Jones party, how does that even happen!
The last thought I think before walking inside is, Why can't I just have a normal life.
