I was jolted awake in the darkness, with Elide's body pressed close to mine. She was still sleeping. I brushed her forehead with my lips. Sleeping here hadn't been in my plans, but honestly, I didn't mind. Having her next to me for a little longer was anything but an inconvenience.

When my brain was finally able to register and care for my surroundings, the sound of a phone ringing in the background piqued my attention. I frowned when I realized it came from outside of Elide's room. I got up and glanced at the table where the small digital clock was glowing in the obscurity. It was three AM.

I got up and followed the incessant sound. Eventually, I found it. It was Elide's phone. Someone was calling. I wasn't sure if I had to wake her up or just tell her in the morning, but when my eyes landed once again on the screen, my frown deepened, noticing the number displayed.

The number didn't appear as saved; I recalled that on one of our calls, that occurred when we were away from each other, she told me how she had everyone saved immediately because calls from unknown numbers scared her.

Before I could process any of my actions, I answered the call,

"Hello?" Silence.

"Who is this?" I inquired, but the only thing I could hear was the sound of someone breathing heavily while walking.

"Is this some kind of joke?" No answer.

I started looking through the room for my phone when I found it exactly at the centre of the table; I took it and as quickly as I could; I dialled the number on my phone.

"I miss her," a male voice suddenly whispered, there was something familiar about that voice, that gave me the creeps.

My jaw clenched in anger.

"Who the hell are you?" I heard a low derisory chuckle from the man.

"Leave her apartment," before I could replay the phone call cut.

I grabbed my phone and texted Travis.

"Track this number" I sent the text and before I knew it he answered.

"Location not identifiable"

I could feel Elide's steps coming into the kitchen so I turned my head to see a tired Elide with a sleepy look wearing a silk nightie.
