PRE-TWILIGHT
the beginning
early 1949Katerina never liked catching up with the times, she much rather preferred sticking to her own time of long ball gowns and extravigant hair does, rather then the plain pencil skirts woman walked around in now. She much preferred the freedom she had compared to the strict rules normal women were 'designed' to follow and live by, how could she possibly live by them when she was incapable of having children?
The seemingly young girl had been turned into her current form in 1492 at the age of eighteen by a romanian man with the name Andrei, who wanted to create an army of newborns. Katerina grew up in Bulgaria, she had been walking through the forest on her way home when Andrei attacked and turned her, he had been watching her for a while beforehand; a fact which he himself infromed her of, and thought she would be perfect for his army. She was strong willed and fierce, never afraid to speak up or fight something she believed to be wrong. Andrei however, was a ruthless man full of hate and malice, he was no doubt the cruellest person Katerina had ever met. He made her a monster, a ruthless killing machine and never once did he show her mercy as he forced her to become the same, believe the same as him. The vile man ruined everything for her, but the one thing he couldn't ruin was her spirit, no matter how much he twisted and shaped her mind he could never get rid of the fire she held inside.
Because everybody knows, if you play with fire you're bound to get burned.
She had been with the army for a decade, a shock to many newborns he continued to create as none of them lived past their first year, but Katerina was special. Katerina was gifted. This new development, once discovered, changed Andrei slightly; he tried to show some form of kindness to the young girl, telling her how much he cared for her and only wanted to help her so that she would never go against him.
Katerina had the ability to show people their worst fears, she could make them see things that would torture their mind, bring them to the brink of praying for death just to stop and start all over again. She could show them things that would drive them to insanity, and once you had experienced Katerina's gift you were never the same, your thoughts plaged with what you had seen, vivid hallucinations of the most haunting images one could possibly imagine. They would torture your mind even if you were to never encounter her again, slowly becoming more violent until your mind broke, and you were nothing more than an empty vessel, a shell of who you once were; a walking corpse.
This made her Andrei's most prized possesssion, no other gift he happened to come across could fight against her, and to him she was seen as unstoppable, invincible, a force to be reckoned with.
But a gift like that also made her wanted.
It wasn't long before the Volturi had caught onto what Andrei was planning and watched from the shadows. Assessing his every move; who he turned, how he acted with them, and especially the young girl he kept glued to his side. They had initially planned to iradicate the whole army, after all they had broken a law and the newborns would need to be destroyed, however when one of the king's eyes landed on Katerina, witnessing what she could do with a simple look, what she could do to a person, he knew he needed to have her on his side. He could see the pure power she possessed and he just had to have her in his collection, and so that's exactly what he did.
