After discovering the location of the storage unit, Emily and Ortiz raced to the scene. When they arrived, they found the unit unlocked and empty, except for a single envelope on the floor.
Emily picked up the envelope and tore it open, revealing a note inside.
"Nice try, but you're too late."

Back at the lab, the forensic team analyzed the envelope and found a partial fingerprint on it. It wasn't enough to identify the suspect, but it was a start.
Emily and Ortiz were relentless in their pursuit of the killer. They followed every lead, no matter how small, and eventually, they caught a break.
A security camera at a nearby gas station captured footage of a man fitting the description of their suspect. Emily and Ortiz recognized him immediately - it was the same man they had chased in the warehouse.
They tracked him down to a rundown apartment building on the outskirts of town. As they approached the building, Emily felt a rush of adrenaline. This was it - the moment they had been waiting for.
They burst into the apartment, guns drawn. The suspect was sitting on the couch, watching TV. He looked up at them, a look of surprise on his face.
"Freeze!" Emily shouted.
The suspect made a run for it, but Emily was faster. She tackled him to the ground and handcuffed him.
As they led the suspect out of the building, Emily couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. They had finally caught the killer.
At the trial, the evidence presented by Emily and Ortiz was overwhelming. The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
