Peace and Chaos - Original Story

4. Training

He was standing all alone surrounded by darkness. He couldn't see anything. Then the darkness started moving. The shadows started moving, he felt like he couldn't breathe and the shadows only crept closer and surrounded him.

"We're going to take control" they whispered in unison and shivers went down the boy's spine. He tried to scream, but it was muffled and he couldn't move or speak.

Shadow woke up screaming. That was the worst nightmare ever. He hated how real it had felt. A bottle of water was held up in front of him, he sat up and reached for it.

"Thank you" he said with a hoarse voice.

"You're welcome"
He emptied the bottle and looked up at his sister. Wait. His sister!?

"LUZ!"

"That's me" she let out a laugh, he had missed that laugh a lot, he had missed her a lot.

"Where are we?"

"Welcome to my humble living area" an unfamiliar voice said. He looked around and found the source of the voice, a young boy who looked like he hadn't taken a proper shower in a year, he had tangled red hair and a dirty hoodie, he looked to be around 13.

"Hi, I'm Kai, and this is where I live."

Shadow looked around, they were outside but the sky were covered by branches as they were in the middle of a circle of trees. He was situated on a "bed" it was more like a couple of pallets with an old mattress on it.

"How long have you lived here?"
The boy looked a bit away and mumbled his answer "3 years"

"Oh, I'm sorry for you"

"So you're a sorcerer?" The boy said trying to change the subject.

Shadow blinked "I'm a what now?"
His sister looked at him "A sorcerer, you have the power of darkness, shadow and... death"

"What? And how do you know that!?"

"I've read a lot about and it matches us, we're polar opposites and I assume you remember the explosion we made when we were 10?"

"Yeah I do, I completely blacked out- the same thing happened yesterday when I... When I killed dad" Shadow was really trying to fight back his tears, but he couldn't and a couple rolled down his cheeks.

"Yeah, and that's because you can't control your powers, they control you instead"

"How can I control them?"

"By practicing them. You need to use your powers in order to control this"
Shadow let out a little scoff.
"And how exactly do you know this, did you read that too?"

"No, but I can control mine can't I?"

Lucy closed her eyes and lifted up her hands with palms facing the sky. Her palms ignited with a bright white flame and she opened her eyes again and now they were shining white. Her eyes went back to being black again and she lowered her hands while putting out the fire.

"That. Was. Awesome!" Kai said with a little squeal breaking the silence.

"Now it's you guys' turn, show me what you've got!"

Kai took a deep breath before closing his eyes. He then calmed down and his hands ignited with fire. Then the fire grew and his whole body was on fire, wait no, it wasn't.

It was around him like a shield or something. He opened his eyes and both his eyes were a bright yellow. He let the fire go with an exhausted smile before fainting. The last thing he saw was Lucy running in to catch him from falling.

He woke up after 2 minutes or something like that. He got up before quickly holding his head and closing his eyes in order to ignore the black dots dancing in his vision, because of the sudden movement and therefore blood leaving his head.

He opened his eyes and removed his hands before looking at Luz.
"That was so cool, even if I fainted!"

"Just don't overestimate yourself and don't use more magic than you can. You could die"

"Oh" a frown appeared on Kai face even though he tried to hide it.

"If you practice your magic a little bit everyday you can do much more than that without fainting" Lucy added to try and lighten the mood.
"Okay" Kai replied with a smile plastered on his face again.

"Shade is up next, Kai, can you please go and watch from the bed, I think you need to rest a bit, you did just faint."
"Fine" the young one muttered and went over to the bed.

Shadow tried to concentrate, he really did and he did also manage to do some pretty cool stuff, with his magic. He had managed to make a flower die and also make the part of him in the shadow invisible.

That was when he started to feel his mind go blank. No, no, no! This couldn't be happening, he didn't want to hurt anyone else. His mind didn't listen and went blank anyway.
He tried to calm down, this time he could see what was happening but not control it. As panicking wouldn't work, he tried to breathe slowly and calm down.

Lucy looked at her brother while he was trying to control his magic, it was all going great, that was until his eyes went completely black.

She tried to get up and run away so he wouldn't kill her (or Kai) as well, but it was like something held her back. She looked down and saw black tentacles, forming from the shadows grabbing her legs and moving up her body, the further up the more strangulated she felt, she couldn't breathe anymore and the tentacles dragged her down to the floor.

Lucy felt a wave of panic hit her and she looked up at her brother. Black dots starting to form in her vision and she started to feel lightheaded. Her brother's eyes flashes for a moment and he stood completely still, the shadows surrounding her was completely still as well. Shadow's eyes flashed a bit as well and then they were back to normal.

The shadow-tentacles let go of Lucy and she took in a couple of quick breaths. She looked up at her brother that ran down and tackled her with a hug. His chest moving quickly up and down. He was crying.

"Luz! I'm so sorry, I could've killed you!!"

"Yeah, but you didn't, you regained control! That means that there's still hope, you can learn to control your powers so this doesn't happen again"

"How can you not be mad at me!? I almost killed you!"

"Being mad at you won't change anything, it would probably just make it all worse"

"I love you, sis"

"I love you too"

"Sorry to interrupted this family moment, but are you alright Luz? You almost died!" Kai said as he had ran up to the siblings.

"Yeah, I'm fine, I just needed to catch my breath"

"Shadow, can you try again? Without trying to kill me this time?" Lucy said the last thing with a little laugh.

"If you insist my lady" Shadow replied with a grin.

He went a bit away from everyone else and concentrated, he closed his eyes and opened them again, they were completely black. But he was still in control.

He. Was. In. Control.
