The girl crept down the empty street, her breath billowing out into a frozen cloud in front of her. She turned the corner down a dead end street. She looked back to make sure she wasn't being followed. Turning back around she slowly she took a length of rope out of her bag. she looked back again as if hesitating, before turning to the task in front of her; the wall.
30 feet high and grey like everything else, the wall was what separated all the women from the unknown. Women in the past had tried to climb the wall, to escape their horrible keepers, but the keepers did their job well. These 'keepers' were in fact more like prison guards. They resembled large mechanical black beetles with shiny red all seeing eyes. It is safe to say that no woman had ever made it over the wall. The girl however, was still willing to try. She swung the rope up as high as it would go, smiling slightly as she heard the satisfying chink of the grappling end as it dug into the concrete of the wall, but her smile faded fast as she heard the unmistakable clicking of mechanical legs. Beetles.
The girl started scaling the wall and she was only about ten feet off the ground when the first pull came. She froze, the pull hadn't come from this side of the wall. In the split second she made the decision to keep climbing, she didn't care what might be on the other side of the wall, nothing could be worse than this world. There came another tug on the rope, this one from the beetle, it was gaining on the girl. Finally a massive tug caused the girl and the beetle to go soaring over the wall, landing with a thud unto unknown ground. And all went dark.
