"Undeclared Love, Forever Mourned"

My heart beats faster when he's near,
My best friend who I hold so dear,
But love for him I cannot share,
For fear of losing what's already there.

I watch him love another one,
My heart breaks, and I feel undone,
I know deep down, we're meant to be,
But I can't bring myself to set my love free.

I long to hold him in my arms,
To shelter him from any harm,
But love is just a dream, it seems,
For us, it's only friendship, it gleams.

And then one day, the news arrives,
That my best friend has left, and my heart thrives,
With sorrow and pain, I cannot believe,
That love for him, I could not achieve.

I grieve for the love we could have shared,
For the secrets, I always feared,
But now, it's too late to turn back time,
And the love that was secret, can never be mine.

My best friend, forever in my heart,
A love that will never depart,
I'll cherish the memories we had,
Of a love that was silent, but never mad.
