THIS IS ME TRYING.

⸻⸻⸻MAHIRA CHAHAL came from a long line of wizards and witches who were known far and wide for their talent. Naturally, going to Hogwarts was expected to be a cakewalk for her, and on the outside, she made it look like it was. Internally, she was panicking, scared to disappoint her parents and grandparents, breaking their record for producing efficient wizards and witches. She wondered if she was even a witch, considering as far as she'd gone to show her magical tendencies was when she made a stack of papers fly when she was angry — she was still unsure if it was her or her beloved cat Pisho.

⸻⸻⸻MAHIRA MET Charles Potter when she was on the train to Hogwarts after a stern talk with her grandmother about her family — one she'd heard a million times already. She bumped into the arrogant boy when she was trying to find a compartment; the boy looked older than the four boys he stood with. One of the younger boys was flirting with a pretty redhead, who seemed uninterested, and Mahira snapped. The boys held their hands up in defense, Charles smiling at her before he left with his brother, James.

⸻⸻⸻IT WAS IN THIER fifth year that Charles asked Mahira out that she said 'yes'. They were happy, satisfied with just themselves for another two years, being the light to each other when darkness loomed over their heads like a storm cloud, ready to bring in the thunder any moment. Every day, some kids would be taken back home by their parents, and some others would lose their families. It was in this fog of grief that Mahira, too, lost her family: her brother and her parents were killed when their house was raided, simply because her mother was a muggle-born.

⸻⸻⸻SHE GRIEVED AND he was there for her through it all. When she needed space, he would step back, sneaking off to Hogsmeade to get her her favourite chocolate. When she lost her breath because of panic attacks, he would help her get her breath back. When she spent sleepless nights staring into the darkness, he would keep her company; sometimes he would sing to her, others, he would just keep her close to his chest. And when four years later he lost his brother and sister-in-law, she did the same for him.
