All our lives start and end in the dark. It is almost poetic. I excepted that my life will end awhile ago. I have never feared death, and I never will.
On Thursday, May 13th, my alarm broke through my haze of a dreamless sleep, I slammed my hand down on my clock to silence the annoying beeping.
“Uuuggghhh!” I groaned into my pillow.
After a few moments, I rolled out of bed and went to my closet to find my uniform. That bloody uniform that I must wear 5 days a week, Monday- Friday. I threw my pleated black and blue skirt on my bed, my short sleeved button-up shirt, and my tie. I threw my uniform on and stood in front of my mirror.
I cringed slightly at my appearance, “This is definitely not my style,” I thought to myself.
I grabbed my dark green converses, and I put them by the door and headed to the bathroom to finish getting ready. I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and put on some light makeup. I brushed my hair to take it from a rats nest from sleeping to a manageable mess. I pleated my hair into one braid that went down to right below my shoulders. I grabbed my backpack, shoes, and coat and headed downstairs. I placed my stuff by the door as the smell of toast wafted up my nose, I walked into the kitchen to see my mom running around. Clearly running around trying to be late. Again. While my brother Liam sat happily in his highchair eating some cheerios.
“Morning mom, Morning Liam,” I kissed the top of Liam’s head, which got me a giggle out of him and put a smile on my face.
I grabbed the needed ingredients for a bowl of cereal. I enjoyed my cereal while playing with Liam.
” We have 10 minutes. Where is your brother? Ash!! Ash, get downstairs, or we’re going to be late!” My mom yelled upstairs.
“You know we could always leave him here,” I suggested.
“And how pray tell would he get to school?” My mom asked, leaning on the island.
“He could get on the bus.”
“The bus leaves in 15 minutes,” She said, checking her watch,” and it's at least a 20-minute walk there.”
“He could run.” I started putting some blueberries in my mouth.
“Ya, we could walk to school today.” Ash said, heading to the pantry after kissing our mom good morning.
“No, you can walk to school and me and Liam and I will ride with mom.” I said, taking another bite of cereal.
“You would leave your favorite brother behind.” Ash said with mock hurt on his face and a hand on his heart.“No, like I said, me and Liam would ride with mom.” I said sarcastically.
“I meant me genius”
“Oh you, I would leave in a heartbeat.” I said, putting my dishes in the sink.
“Okay, okay, please act like you love each other.” My mom said getting Liam.
“Fine, but it will be a struggle.”
I walked out and put on my shoes and coat, grabbed my bag, and waited by the door.
“Ya, ya, you know you love me,” Ash said, ruffling my hair as he grabbed his stuff.
“Hey, watch the hair. I finally got it to look decent.”
I grabbed Liam from mom and headed out to the car, put him in his seat, and got in mine. After about 5 minutes, mom and Ash got in the car, too.
