“Good evening, Silverson. we are here to bring an important announcement. As we have informed your children, the government has been losing funding, so to ensure that this fine city counties to prosper, we are implementing a new system this evening. We will start in Group 1 at 8:30 pm, they will be the first to hear about our new system. If you are in group one a special announcement for your ears only will be broadcasted to you and for everyone else we will continue these announcements and inform everyone on the new systems and when it will be your group's time to help this fine city. Have a great evening, everyone.”
At that, the radio spilled out static for a moment. The tension was thick, so thick you could cut it with a knife. Me and Ash had nerves rolling off of us while our parents seemed at the ready to help our city.
“Hello group 1. Thank you for your participation in helping this fine city. We need all the adults to grad everyone in the household documents, the one in your government issued folders. Take those out and hand them into a government official, and they will inform you of where to go next. You will line up where you are put and stand by and wait for instructions. People who are exempt from this are: Bedbond people, people who have contracted an illness of any sort, the extremely disabled and immobile people. Everyone else, please follow the instructions that were given before. Please be prepared by 8:30 pm. Thank you all for your cooperation.”
The radio fell silent.
“Okay, I will get the papers, and you get everyone ready?” My dad asked.
“Yep, okay, Ash and Ember, go hang out in your room. I will get Liam ready.” She took Liam from my lap and checked her watch, “You have 45 minutes till you need to be downstairs ready to leave, understood?” She asked in a no messing around tone.
Me and Ash nodded. She waved us off, and we headed upstairs.
“What do you think they’re going to do?” I asked Ash.
“I don't know, Ember, I really dont. I just hope they are actually sane about it.” I nodded in agreement. The rest of the climb we fell into a comfortable silence with both of our minds rilling with questions and concerns. I walked into my room and decided to change out of my uniform. I picked out a black tee shirt, some ripped black jeans, and my black combat boots. I threw it all on and looked in the mirror. I smiled this time, “Now this is me,” I thought to myself, “But this needs to be fixed,” I thought as I took out my braid. And threw my hair in a high ponytail instead. “Perfect”. I grabbed my leather jacket from my closet and placed it by the door. I packed up my backpack so it's ready for tomorrow. I grabbed a book and flopped on my bed to pass the time. I got bored of that in like 10 minutes, so instead, I grabbed my mp3 player and started playing my playlist. I danced around my room to my music for the rest of the time.
Till I hear my mom calling from downstairs, “Time to go!!”
I sigh and turn off my music, grab my jacket and stuff my mp3 in my pocket, and head downstairs.
I see mom trying to get Liam to put on his shoes and coat.
“Want some help?” I ask.
“Yes, he refuses to put his stuff on. If we don't hurry, we are going to be late. I don't know what's gotten into him.” My mom sighs.
“Don't worry, I will get him ready while you finish getting ready.”
“Thank you, sweetie.” She walked off to go get her coat, I presume.
“Alright bud, I get you dont want to do this. Trust me, I don't either, but we gotta. So let's do this and get it over with. Once we’re done, we can come back inside, and I will get us some popsicles, okay?” I ask.
“Okay,” He said happily.
I smile, and we put his shoes on, and I help him with his coat. I quickly throw on my jacket, I pick up Liam and see mom, dad, and Ash walking towards me.
“Okay, are you going to be in charge of Liam Ember?” My dad asks while handing me my folder.
“Yeah,” my dad hands me Liam’s folder, too.
“Those are yours and Liam's folders. You are going to need to hand both of them in.” My dad explained and passed out the rest of the folders.
“Everyone please come out with your documents in hand!!” An announcer sounded out.
