Pacifica Southeast, how to describe her? Physically, she's a very cliché looking girl: blonde hair, thin, green eyes, fancy (maybe?). Her personality is not so pretty, no, far from it. She's known for being rude and judgmental, especially with what others wear. That was the exact reason she never became a popular girl at her previous school, because she judges too much.
Meanwhile, there's her best friend, Gideon Pines, a boy with a charming personality and a known passion for fashion. He's very loved by everyone around him, except for his parents — that feared him more than loved him. Yes, behind all of this dazzling reputation, there's a little brat who hates when things don't go his way and when he doesn't get what he wants.
What a great friendship, right?
Believe it or not, those two get along almost perfectly. People even think they're related due to them being so close. Maybe they're lost cousins and don't even know it. It's possible, right?
Inside of a bus, Pacifica drew a sketch of herself wearing a ball gown with a bow on the back, her hair let down and a pair of diamond earrings on her ears. The bus was entirely empty except for her and her best friend, because Gideon's parents were afraid something might happen to their precious boy or someone did something to him and his best friend, whom they saw as a daughter too. She smiled to herself, daydreaming with a ball where she could wear a fancy dress and dance with someone that understood her, maybe someone that would even help her.
Her fantasy is cut off by a foot hitting her. "Ow!" she turned to her side. "Gideon, what the heck?"
Gideon, whose hands were on the window, turned his head to Pacifica. "Oh, forgive me!" he took his foot off of her. "I was just waiting to see the sign."
Pacifica crossed her arms. "You're not really excited, are you?"
Gideon giggled. "Yes, I am excited!" he said. "A whole summer being just me and my best friend, and without my parents to bug me? That is a perfect summer for me."
"You know we're gonna have to work, right?" Pacifica asked.
He sighed. "I know, I know," he replied. "Never liked the idea of working during summer, but if they won't pay me anything here, then I'll work for it myself."
Both their parents decided that it was a good idea to give them a quantity of money and work if they wanted or needed more. It was their way of making them see that you can't get anything without working hard for it. Pacifica's parents were the ones to come up with the idea, and surprisingly, Gideon's parents agreed! Maybe that's why he's resenting them a bit more. Honestly, Pacifica kinda envied Gideon's relationship with his parents. She wished her parents were that liberal and caring for her opinions, instead of judging when she choose something they didn't like.
"I hope we find a decent job at least,"
Pacifica raised a brow. "What decent job is hiring a pair of twelve year olds?"
"I don't know," Gideon shrugged. "There has to be something, right?"
"Hm, maybe," Pacifica turned back to her sketchbook.
Gideon leaned closer. "What are you drawing?"
"Myself." Pacifica replied.
"Oh, another cute dress!" Gideon eyed it up and down. "It would look even cuter if it was a one shoulder sleeve."
Pacifica considered it, then erased the sleeves and redrew them as Gideon's suggested. She looked at the result pensively. "You're right," she said. "It looks cuter."
Gideon's smile grew. "I knew it," he said. "You're welcome."
"Hey, don't get cocky."
"You're the cocky one." Gideon shot back.
