Giyuu sighed quietly, the relief of his short-lived vengeance calming his troubled heart.

He turned to leave, the quickly decaying body of the demon at his back. He walked back down the path he had hazardously chased the running demon down and was greeted once more with the sight of the quaint house.

He clenched his teeth, admittedly nervous about the unknown that would happen next. One he was fully unprepared for and less than enthusiastic to face.

He slid back the barely standing door, courteously closing it behind him despite its warped and broken shape. He returned to the shambled room with claw marks along the walls and broken furniture greeting him.

The form of a small girl was amongst the destruction. She was curled up in the corner with blood staining her torn and ripped clothes.

Giyuu called out calmly, not wanting to startle her, and making her aware of his presence as he drew closer.

"Y/n, it's me, Giyuu." He slowly walked closer, carefully observing her in case she planned to attack. One hand was placed onto his scabbard unconsciously as the other hung at his side.

He crouched a foot away from her, sitting there momentarily before slowly reaching his free hand out to her trembling shoulder.

"Y/n, it's ok, your safe now, it's gone." He held back the anger rising in him as he mentioned her assailant. The lowermoon demon had attacked by surprise when he had been out on a mission.

Y/n, being left home while he was gone for the short day trip, had gotten ambushed. She had managed to hold her own for a while, evident by the mess of a house, but he had arrived too late.

When he caught sight of the house and the destroyed front door, he bolted to it with his blade drawn. In a blind rage, he had attacked the rookie demon when he spotted her pale and limp form nearby.

The demon had tried to bolt and he chased it down, and shortly after, dismembering its head.

Now, here he was, hoping, that Y/n wouldn't be a bloodthirsty demon. If she was, he didn't think he could handle it. He couldn't hurt her. Not the young girl he had taken in years ago and grown so close to.

He snapped his attention back to Y/n as she sniffled. Her head raised slowly and her changed irises made contact with his own fearful blue ones.

In an instant, she had launched herself onto him. Sobbing into his shoulder and grasping weakly onto his haori as she buried her face into his reassuring chest, knowing she would be safe in his arms.

Giyuu stumbled backward from his crouched position and landed firmly on the floor. Relief and guilt spread through him.

"I'm sorry Y/n, I wasn't here to protect you..."

She shook her head in his chest, denying him the fault he had placed on himself. He creased his brows as his eyes grew misty. He returned her desperate hug with his trembling arms.

A Few Years Later

"Thank you all for attending this meeting so late at night." The leader of the demon slayers, Ubuyashiki, smiled at the nine Hashira gathered before him.

"Of course, Master Ubuyashiki." The group of Hashira all chimed in and bowed their heads to the leader. Giyuu was the first to stand of the Hashira, beckoning Y/n over to him for their departure.

The young demon child hopped up from her seat next to Ubuyashiki for head pats and quickly waddled over to Giyuu.

She grabbed the water pillar's hand and waved goodbye to the group of other Hashira. Mitsuri was gushing about her cuteness, Uzui proclaiming her flamboyance, and Rengoku chuckling loudly as he waved back.

Giyuu regretted bringing Y/n to the meeting, with all the pillars paying so much attention to his usually blank face that had softened significantly at the girl's presence.

"Mmmhmm!" The young girl looked up at the blue-haired male's face and smiled cutely through the bamboo muzzle as they turned onto the road.

Giyuu softened again and let a small smile spread across his lips.

"I'm glad you had fun..."
