School for Mitsuri was never anything about popularity. Not that the girl was a nobody, she was well known and had her fair share of friends, but she had never prioritized it.

The same couldn't be said about others in her high school, desperate for some semblance of fame during their teenage years.

Despite that, Mitsuri couldn't help but be drawn in by one in particular.

Y/n L/n, the source of her infatuation. Mitsuri had always been a romantic, and with her heavy crush on Y/n, she could barely contain herself when she saw her.

The girl was the embodiment of popularity, people were always around the girl, asking for help with schoolwork or wanting to hang out after school.

Mitsuri couldn't help but be jealous of the amount of eyes always on Y/n. Everyone who talked to her so casually bothered Mitsuri to no avail.

Y/n was too kind and pretty to be associated with all the other nobodies in their class. Mitsuri couldn't stand it.

She wished she was the one talking to Y/n. Walking through the halls with her, going to the cafe around the corner with her.

"Alright class, settle down!" The first-period teacher walked into the room, ushering the class into silence and beginning the day's lesson as Mitsuri dreamily stared ahead at the object of her twisted affection.

Mitsuri shuffled nervously among the crowd of students through the hallway, usually, she would be following Y/n to her after-school extracurriculars, but today she had planned something different.

That something was the pink envelope clutched tightly between her clammy hands as she stressfully approached Y/n's locker.

With the large crowd of students pushing through nobody would notice her pushing the letter through the small gap in the locker, but she still couldn't help the wild beating of her heart as she grew closer.

Mitsuri took a calming breath as she walked up and quickly slipped the note in. Her heart hammered away as she turned red at the thought of Y/n delicately handling the small but sweet love letter as she read the words neatly printed on it.

'please meet me at the rooftop y/n ♥'

It was printed right in the middle and surrounded by an abundance of small pink and red hearts Mitsuri had doodled while daydreaming in class.

She was sure Y/n would see the note and head straight to the rooftop, she couldn't wait!

Mitsuri smiled gleefully and held her hands to her cheeks feeling the flaming skin underneath from her reddened face. Realizing that she was still standing in front of Y/n's locker, she quickly walked away and headed to the school rooftop to wait for her crush.

She hadn't come.

Mitsuri stood holding the cool metal of the railing as she watched Y/n exit the front gates of the school minutes after her extracurriculars had finished.

Mitsuri watched dullfully as the ever-popular Y/n waved to her friends who were waiting across the street. Her heart felt like a hole was through it, the constant throbbing of excitement long gone and a feeling of disappointment and emptiness replacing it.

She couldn't believe that she had been stood up. But why though? Y/n and her were perfect for each other, made to be together, so why hadn't she shown up?

'She must've mixed up the day!' Mitsuri smiled in relief at the obvious answer. Y/n must've thought that she was to go to the rooftop tomorrow morning before school. She should've been more specific with her letter.

At the reassurance, Mitsuri left the rooftop and headed in the direction of Y/n's path home. She could wait till tomorrow. She had been waiting to confess since seeing Y/n on the first day of their freshman year, one day was short in comparison.

The following day, Mitsuri eagerly followed Y/n around as usual, her excitement growing larger and larger as the day went by. At lunch, she watched as Y/n and her friends chatted at the outdoor table.

As her crush opened her lunch a familiar card fell out.

"Y/n what's that? A love letter~!" One of the girls exclaimed and giggled with the others. Mitsuri watched as Y/n rolled her eyes with annoyance.

"Yeah, it's that creep I told you all about that's been stalking me. I meant to throw it away yesterday but I-" As her lovely Y/n continued on Mitsuri could feel her heart shatter at the girl's hurtful words.

'Creep... stalker, no she must be mistaken I'm only showing her how much I care for her!" Misturi anxiously toyed with the ends of her braids as Y/n complained about her devotion each and every day.

The girl who was speaking was unrecognizable to Mitsuri, this wasn't Y/n, it couldn't be. The grating noise of the other girls surrounding her was driving Mitsuri crazy.

'It's their fault... they're lying to Y/n, trying to keep her away from me.' Mitsuri's eyes widened and she scowled as the other girls comforted Y/n. 'They're trying to keep us apart from each other, they're jealous of me and Y/n's love.'

Misturi slipped away chewing her lip as she grew more and more anxious. 'I have to get rid of them. How dare they... HOW DARE THEY!'

Mitsuri stopped and slammed her fist into a locker in the empty hallway, her strength denting the metal slightly from the force.

'I'll just have to get rid of the pests buzzing around my sweet flower.' Mitsuri breathed out a sigh and composed herself, mentally noting those girls' faces so she could dispose of them soon.

"Such a shame Y/n, if only you weren't so popular, I wouldn't have to go to such lengths to make you all mine..."
