"Take the picture from this angle too."

"Yes, sir!"

"I want the second forensics team examining every inch of this house!"

"Yes, sir!"

"Shisui, you know you're not supposed to be on this case seeing as you're familiar with the deceased."

Shisui lowered his camera to look at his employer. "Yes, but I swear I won't interfere and be biased," he promised. "I barely knew her and I just found out she married a cousin I haven't spoken to in years." He released an inaudible, regretful sigh.

His boss ran through his hair with his hand before pointing a finger, the meaning conveying a threat. "One tiny mistake and you're off, you got it?"

"Yes, sir!" Shisui nodded eagerly, shaking off the sadness creeping up on him. He continued to capture photos of [Name], the woman he was interested in. Her body was surrounded by a pool of dark blood and a knife was embedded deeply in her chest. Various bloodied spots decorated her pink shirt. Despite the crimson scene she depicted, her features displayed one of peace, as if she was simply sleeping. He spotted the same, wretched phone, lying next to her ear. Anger overtook him and his hand extended for the phone-

"Don't touch that! It's solid evidence!"

He flinched as if burned and instead, reached for his own phone. "1800-666-6666, huh. I'll do my own little investigation," he muttered as he dialed the number.

"Hello, you have reached the line for the Limousine Service. How may I help you today?" a cheery female voice greeted.

Shisui furrowed his eyebrows, befuddled. "Uh... may I speak to a Pein?"

"I'm sorry sir, Pein who?"

"Do you guys have a Pein working for you? P-E-I-N. Or P-A-I-N, I don't know how his name is spelled and sorry, I don't know his last name-"

"No sir, there doesn't seem to be a Pein in our company."

"Okay, thanks Ma'am."

"You're welcome sir-"

Shisui hung up, confusion clouding his senses more than ever. "Was Pein completely made up by [Name]?" he whispered to himself.

As he pondered, he heard his boss say to one of his coworkers, "Mark this down in your notepad: case is closed as a suicide." Before Shisui could question further, there was a shout from upstairs.

"Sir, we found bodies in the closet! A man and two women."

With haste, Shisui ran up to the second floor and into the room the discovered bodies were located. "I know that guy. He's my cousin. Sasuke Uchiha," he immediately said.

His boss said from behind him, "We'll need to do a short investigation on the two women and on your cousin. I'm sorry Shisui, but you're becoming too involved. I need you off the case."

"But sir-" he tried to protest, only to be interrupted. "I will put you on another case for forensics. This is final."

Shisui's expression was one of dejection. "If only I had stayed... she wouldn't have killed herself."

"She was a troubled young woman. Don't fault yourself for that, Shisui."

"How do you know?"

A beige folder was given to Shisui and he skimmed the contents as his boss gave him an explanation. "[Name] Shizumi. She had a history with overdosing on pills and was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years ago. It seemed her therapist deemed her safe enough to go out in the real world, as long as she stayed on her daily pills. But it ended up with her being a dead murderer. Sad, really."

Shisui could only say nothing, except experience guilt and helplessness. He received a hard pat on the shoulder. "Shisui, I have a new case for you. But you're going to need a partner as this is twice the work."

"What? I don't need a partner. I'm fine working alone, you know, boss?" Shisui insisted. "It's just all a matter of finding evidence and capturing it on camera."

His employer ignored his objections and stepped aside, revealing a person Shisui had never seen before. Orange hair with eerie purple eyes that held hidden knowledge. Piercings littered his face dangerously, emitting an uncanny aura. The man smiled, revealing his straight, white teeth and held a hand for Shisui to shake.

"Hello, I am Pein."

A/N: And this is the end, thank you guys so much for following, commenting and continuing to read! <3 I'll answer some questions or confusion you might have: "So was Pein real or was she hallucinating?" Originally, this story was based on her own imagination and hallucinations. It was purely psychological but as I continued to write this and reached the ending, I decided to leave it semi-open ended. You can decide if he was partially real, completely real or if he's just a guy who happened to have the same name as [Name]'s Pein. C;

Also, Shisui became an important character because he set the ending and I never specified his job [at least I don't think so], so it was perfect that it flowed nicely. Don't grill me if I got the forensic semantics wrong, because I am merely being creative. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I hope you enjoyed this ending because I'm satisfied with it <3

My next goal is to finish Beneath the Surface, so please stay tuned! <3 ~ Kai

EXTRA: The reader killed herself because in the previous chapter, Pein told her "to come to him". I hope this clears things up.
