Synopsis

Daenys Velaryon lives only for others, yet within her heart, she harbours a whisper of selfish desire. She has dedicated her life to her brothers, becoming their staunch advocate, their steadfast defender, their eldest sister, entwined with their destinies. What purpose, she wonders, could she have if not in their service? Yet, in the quiet moments, when shadows soften the world, she dreams of a life unfettered, free from the heavy chains of duty and sacrifice. Aemond Targaryen is nobody, second in importance, heir to nothing, and yet he simply cannot stop wanting, stop reaching, for the things he cannot and should not have. He wants the girl whom he has grown up beside, he wants the crown his brother is destined for, he wants justice and retribution, but in his greed, it is easy to forget that the price of it can only be paid in blood.
