Why doesn't it feel any better?

Ever since that day at Drew's house, Drew or any of his friends haven't messed with me anymore. But for some reason, things just don't feel, quite right. Luke and Zack stood up for me, which I'm completely grateful for. But a small part of me, just wishes I could have done it by myself.

Now I've dragged Luke and Zack into my problem. Why do I have to be such a burden to my friends?

Cody was on his way to his locker after school when he felt a tap on his shoulder. His heart skipped a beat as he slowly turned around.

"Hello Cody," the voice said.

Cody took a sigh of relief as he looked up and saw Mr. Hill.

"O-Oh hi, sir." Cody said.

"Were you expecting someone else there, Mr Martin? You seem a little distressed," Mr. Hill asked.

"Y-Yeah I thought it was my brother." Cody came up with.

"I thought you were coming back my office the other day; what happened?"

"I'm really really sorry sir," Cody began. "I—"

"Apology accepted. How about we can have that talk right now," he suggested. He began walking to a table and two chairs that was in the hallway. Cody set his bag near his locker and followed his principal over to the table and sat down across from him; he tried his best to look like nothing was bothering him.

"Glad I could have this chat with you Cody. I do care about all of my students here and your friends situation is #1 on my to-do list." Mr. Hill stated.

Cody paused. His heart twisted; it hurt him lying to Mr. Hill. He had been nothing but good to him.

"How is he doing by the way, Cody?" Mr. Hill continued.

"Mr. Hill can I tell you something?" Cody asked nervously.

"Of course."

"What's been happening to my friend..."

"Yes?"

Cody paused.

"..it was me." Cody spat out. "I'm really sorry sir."

Mr. Hill smiled.

"I know, Cody." He said.

"w-what?"

"What are you saying sorry for?" Mr. Hill asked.

"f-for telling you an untruth," he answered.

"Cody, what you're going through is not easy to talk about; especially with an adult, let alone your principal." Mr. Hill said before continuing. "Is your eye okay, Cody?"

Cody looked down. He forgot about the faded purple ring around his left eye; he wished it would disappear.

"Yeah it's okay."

"Are you okay?"

Cody attempted to look up into his eyes, but they fell short at the table.

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, sir."

"Do you wish to tell me who it was? I have a feeling I know who but I cannot take any action unless I hear it from you." Mr. Hill said.

"N-No." Said Cody.

"Really?"

"No. It wouldn't be fair to him. W-We talked and he said it wouldn't happen again; a-and he said he was sorry," he stuttered.

Mr. Hill was astounded. He had never seen a student demonstrate perseverance to this extent ever before. He was willing to protect his tormentor, despite everything he had put him through. Mr. Hill knew it was Drew, but per Cody's wishes, he wasn't going to take disciplinary action.

"Okay." Mr. Hill said. He gently rested his hand on top of Cody's on the table. He lightened his tone before he continued.

"You really are something special, Cody Martin," the principal said. He then stood up and walked over to Cody's locker, grabbing his bag for him and taking it back to the table they were sitting at. He extended his hand out to Cody once he got back to the table.

"T-Thanks Mr. Hill," Cody said as he grabbed his hand. Mr. Hill pulled him up and gave his backpack to him. Mr. Hill then leaned down and placed his hand onto Cody's shoulder, one last time.

"Cody, are you sure?"

"Y-Yes sir."

"Alright. You get home safe today, okay?"

"I will."

"Thanks for talking with me this afternoon, Mr Martin," he said as he turned to leave.

"You're welcome, sir."

And with that, Mr. Hill headed towards his office and Cody went to the gym to find his brother so they could walk home.

Mr. Hill was inside his office when he heard a knock on his door. It was Thursday of the next week and he was keeping his promise with Cody.

"Come in!" He bellowed. The doorknob twisted, and in walked Luke.

"Good afternoon Luke, how can I help you?" Mr. Hill asked as Luke sat down.

"Hey Mr. Hill, I just came in quickly to talk about, someone I know." He replied.

"Sure, what's the matter?"

"I recently became friends with a kid here and he is such a great person to be around and he cares a lot about everyone; but he's been having a problem with another student here."

"What problem?"

"This one kid just won't leave him alone; and he's hurt him a few times—like badly. I just can't see him get hurt anymore..."

"Are you referring to a certain someone with the last name Martin?" Mr. Hill asked. Luke looked down for the first time.

"Y-Yeah? How did you know?" He asked.

"I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him outside of school hours and he seems to know the matter at hand. He's asked me not to take disciplinary measures."

"He did?"

"Mhm." Mr. Hill said.

Luke then got up and walked out the office quickly.

"Thanks, Mr. Hill," he said don the way out the door, before the principal had a chance to reply.

Luke immediately went to Zack and Cody's lockers. Zack was the only one there.

"Zack, where's your brother?" Luke asked him.

"I don't know, what's up?"

"I just wanna talk to him real quick."

"I have no idea where he is. You can check the science room, he goes there sometimes after school." Zack said.

"Alright, I'll go check."

"Okay; and when you do find him, tell him I'll be in the gym—I'm ready to walk home whenever." Zack said.

Luke turned the corner and headed to the room where Zack told him to check. Right outside the door to the room, he saw Cody; One of Drew's friends had one of his hands on Cody, holding him against the locker.

"Hey!" Luke called out as he approached the two of them. Drew's friend looked at him and let go of Cody.

"Cody are you okay?" Luke asked. He shook his head yes.

"Dude, what are you doing here?" Luke asked.

"L-Listen, Drew said I'd be sorry if I didn't do this right now."

"What?"

"Drew didn't want you to be in the gym right now, Luke."

"Why?"

Oh No.

Luke remembered who was in the gym right now. Zack.
