He looked at the boy's father. Petr was a traitor and deserved to die. He cocked his hand gun and pulled the trigger.
Bam
The man fell to the floor with little protest. Yanovich smirked and attempted to not laugh at the bloody scene lying in his feet. His stifled laughter brought concern from on concerned soldier.
"Sir are you okay?" He asked, his voice quivering with uncertainty.
"Yes Sergei. Now clean up this mess," his smile rose, "go get the dogs and feed them."
"Yes sir." Sergei saluted before stalking off.
Yanovich's creul face drew to a sadistic pause, almost curiosity. He saw a young boy, only 3 years of age, staring with widened eyes.
"Hello, little ditya."
The boy's watered eyes let tears fall down. He looked from his father's corpse to Yanovich's face.
"He's - he's gone..."
"Now, now, he was a traitor to your motherland. You should be happy we are free of him" Yanovich beckoned him closer.
The young boy paused before stepping towards Yanovich. He noticed the hesitation and decided he needed to pretend even further to not be full of malice.
"Come with me, ditya." Yanovich took his hand and pulled him north.
The boy didn't struggle or even flinch. He allowed himself to be taken to a mysterious place. Yanovich almost laughed at how easily he could kill such a fragile child.... but he couldn't. No matter how much he wanted to snap the boy's neck, he knew it would be good publicity.
They arrived at a cabin that was heavily guarded. Yanovich opened the door and shoved the kid inside.
He landed with a thud on the hard wooden floors and began to cry harder.
"No, no ditya. Don't cry. Don't cry."
Yanovich struggled to find anything to calm the tantrum. He noticed Ivan's old bunny. He couldn't remember when Ivan's last glanced at it.
"Hey. Look."
The kid looked up, his eerily blue eyes bloodshot with tears and his nose leaking with goo. The boy took the bunny and hugged it close. Yanovich calmed at the boy's sudden silence.
"Papa welco- who is he?"
"Ivan, meet your new brother."
He offered a hand to the boy, "What's your name? I'm Ivan."
Yanovich noticed the boy hesitate again. He sensed distrust. The boy was right not to trust yanovich, but Ivan? Pfft. Yanovich knew Ivan couldn't even hurt a bee if he wanted to.
"I'm vasiliy."
