~My absentee father drops in.~

Eris' heart hammered in her chest, as she sprinted through an alleyway, hoping to lose whatever was chasing her. She had known as soon as she had seen it that it was dangerous, her instincts had screamed and wailed until she'd finally caught on and high-tailed it out of there.

In usual circumstances, she would make a joke about how getting to finish her sandwich would have been worth staying around but she couldn't shake the prickling terror that had crept up her neck and left her with goosebumps, how she had frozen, something she'd promised herself never to do, when faced with real danger and the tsunami of fear it brought with it.

Eris knew there was no point dwelling on her failure, she could do it later as she tried to sleep, so she kept on running, ducking around corners and twisting through the dark alleys that she had called home since she ran from her mother. All she ever did was run.

Clearing her mind and breathing deeply, she fell into the rhythm of her converse pounding on the concrete, one foot in front of the other. She didn't stop running until her lungs screamed with protest and she when she did, they greedily sucked in the air. Her tears had long since dried and despite the malice-filled eyes burned into her mind, the adrenaline had faded, a pity, she would have liked to get further away.

Eris liked to travel light - less to lose when it was inevitably stolen she would say, not that she really had anything worth stealing - it meant that 'camp' was very easy to set up, consisting of her ragged sleeping bag and a second pair of socks that she wore on her hands during the night.

Eris, already resigned to sleeping on the floor - she had experience - tucked her bag at her feet and crawled in, making sure to curl up and be as invisible as she could physically make herself.

~

As comfy as she was, Eris couldn't for the life of her sleep, though maybe that was the idea, every time she dozed off, those eyes burned like hellfire through her mindscape, infecting it and throwing her from her hard won slumber. She supposed it might be a natural response to a close brush with death, but she was most likely over reacting, the creature had only chased her for a few blocks before it lost interest and she'd made sure it was a distance away as it was.

Maybe she was just imagining it, she'd done that before when she used to live there. Yeah, there was obviously a rational explanation so if her brain would shut up she could finally get some rest.

Eris sighed, she was definitely nuts if she was arguing with herself, she could deal with it another day though, so she rolled over and closed her eyes, internally begging sleep to take her.

~

Eris' eyes fluttered open, slowly adjusting to the being in front of her. He eyed her curiously and she could see the power glinting in his pitch black eyes, the deep abyss that they were. He stood tall, radiating a slightly off putting aura, one that made her gasp when he reached up and grasped her face, palm ice cold, smile just a fraction too wide.

"So this is my offspring,"
