Allie left the deli around 4:00 and headed home hoping to get in a shower and a power nap before her best friend got home from work. Clare was the closest Allie had to a sister. They'd been friends since Junior High and they'd been roommates for the past few months since Allie ended her relationship with James.
Allie walked in and tossed her purse on the kitchen table. She grabbed a Strawberita from the fridge and plopped down on the couch. Her cat Lola jumped up next to her on the couch and nudged her arm with her head. Allie sat and pet her for a few mins and then realized she needed to get ready for her birthday dinner. She jumped up and went to her closet and started sifting thru hangers. She decided on a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, an ivory lace top and her black leather jacket. She often looked in the mirror disappointed in the image staring back at her, so it was a good feeling to be able to smile at the mirror and mean it for a change. She decided to flat iron her hair and wear it down tonight. She was finishing up her make up when Clare came in. "I'm so sorry I'm late! I'll hurry." "Don't worry about it." Allie assured her coming out of the bathroom. Clare stopped in her tracks. "Wow girl, someone's looking to get a birthday hook up tonight. You look hot baby girl." "Thanks chic, I just wanted to feel good tonight." Allie said looking down at her outfit. Clare ran to her room and started looking for something to wear. She was one of those girls who could wear a potato sack and made it look runway ready. However she was also completely unaware of her hotness. Clare came out of her room wearing black leggings, a royal blue tunic with a black cami underneath. "So are we going to Manhattan for a night of debauchery?" Clare asked.
"Well......." Allie said smiling. "We have other plans if we'd like." Clare looked at her trying to read her expression, she couldn't. "Spill it Allie." Allie laughed and took a drink of her Strawberita setting the can down. "We were invited to a gig." Clare wasn't sure what she meant and asked, "a gig? Explain." Allie told her, "well this super hot guy came in to the deli today, he's a musician and he said if we wanted to come to his show tonight he'd put us on his VIP list." Clare seemed interested. "Who is he? What kind of music?" "I don't know, he gave me his number and said if I wanted to come tonight to text him and he'd make sure we got on his list." She held the paper up, in big black marker is said: Brody 449-559-7731. Please come.
Clare grabbed Allie's drink to take a sip. "Brody eh? What's he look like?" Allie sighed. "He's adorable, he's tall, he's got dark hair with blonde highlights, and gorgeous hazel eyes. He's not from around here but I couldn't place his accent." Clare looked at Allie funny. Things were clicking. "Allie where is this gig he invited you to?" Allie had to think for a second, "He's playing at Madison Square Garden, think he's an opening act or something." Clare, who had just taken another sip spit it across the room. Allie looked at her in surprise. "What the hell girl?" They laughed. Clare grabbed Allie's shoulders, "Allie, baby doll, did Brody Sinclair invite you to his show tonight?" Allie wasn't sure. "I didn't get his last name. But Brody Sinclair plays sold out arenas, he travels by plane from city to city. Why would Brody Sinclair be at Poppy's deli today" Clare held up her iPad with an image showing on the screen. It was Allie's handsome new friend. Clare ask, "was it this guy?" Allie shook her head yes. "Clare, I don't understand, why would he have any interest in giving me VIP access to his show." Clare laughed, "I don't know but you're going to text him and tell him you need access for two!"
Allie grabbed her phone and text the number: Hey Brody, this is Allie, the girl from the deli today. You saved me from my ex boyfriend. You had invited me to your show tonight because it's my birthday. Hope this is ringing familiar.
He wrote back immediately: Hey Allie, of course I remember you. What do you think I'm a vegetable? I do in fact remember inviting you and it was not because it's your birthday. Are you coming?
Allie replied: well I was hoping to but I have my best friend with me. Any chance she could come with me?
Brody answered: yeah of course she can come. Did you eat dinner already? If not come have dinner with me and the band, we've got a huge spread.
Allie text back: seriously? Why are you being so nice to me?
Brody replied: because you're cute as hell and I want to get to know you.
Allie stood there for a second. Clare was watching, "Allie, what's wrong?" Allie just handed Clare the phone to read for herself. Clare's jaw dropped too. Clare text for her: I'm blushing. Thank you. We would love to join you for dinner. We will head that way. What should we do when we get there?
He answered: I'll leave passes and tickets to the show at the will call office. Have your ID with you and once you get into the arena, text or call me and we'll figure it out from there.
Allie text back: thank you so much. I'm looking forward to seeing you again.
Brody text: likewise. See you soon star shine.
Star shine..... She'd never heard the term before, but it had a nice ring to it.
