"I'm gonna be here a while, aren't I?" Luigi said after rambling on for 20 odd minutes. For some perspective, Luigi had only been kidnapped for 25 minutes. And the only reason he hadn't been talking for the first 5 minutes is because he was gagged.
Luigi sat in a cage next to the King's throne. The king himself, Bowser, had stopped listening, so it was a shock when Luigi had stopped talking. He turned to the prisoner. "What did you say?" He asked, mumbling a bit as if he had been awoken from a long slumber.
Luigi started fidgeting with his gloves. "I was wondering if I am going to be here a while?"
Bowser blinked as he thought about what the human had just asked. He suddenly burst out laughing. "A while is an understatement, greenie!"
"Ah, well, that's good." Luigi said through a nervous laugh. "Well, not good for me, because I'm stuck here for who knows how long, but good for you! You get to, you get to... what are you gonna do to me?"
Bowser hadn't really considered that. Kidnapping people was just kind of his deal. Maybe he'd done it to make Mario mad. Maybe he'd done it for ransom. Maybe done it to get Peach's attention. Whatever the reason was, he didn't need to tell this green twerp that! He turned away from Luigi.
"Ah, I see! Your silence speaks volumes! Well, not really. I still have no clue what I'm here for. But don't we all?" Luigi laughed. "Hey, can I ask you a question?"
Bowser turned back to Luigi. "Make. It. QUICK."
Luigi backed as far as he could from the King. "Uh, well, um, can I not be in a cage?"
"Why?"
"It's uncomfortable, for one. Unnecessary, for I know it would be a death wish to try and run away. Finally, I just don't want to cage!"
Bowser put his head in his palm. "No."
"Right, I knew you would say that." Luigi turned away from the King. It was sad, really. This insect thought he could get out of being stuck in a cage. "So," Oh great. "Uh, if you could have anyone as a dinner guest, who would it be?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, I don't know. Just thought I'd get to know you better."
"I'm not answering that."
"Please?"
"No."
"I already know who you're gonna choose."
"Good, so stop asking me!"
"I just want verbal confirmation about who you would choose."
"That's stupid. I'm not telling you!"
"I'm not gonna shut up until you tell me!"
"NO!"
"Alright then. According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way bee should be able to fly!"
"Oh my God, fine! I'll tell you! Just don't recite the whole thing!"
"Good, because I don't know the rest of the script."
"Oh great." Bowser sighed. "So you really want to know?"
"Yes." Luigi said, getting as close as he could to Bowser.
"Fine." Bowser mumbled something under his breath.
"I assume you said Peach?"
Bowser made somewhat agreeing noises.
"So, yes?"
"Yes."
The two looked away from each other. Bowser curled himself into a ball before asking, "What about you?"
"Right now at this moment? Mario."
"Ah, I see. You must miss him."
"I do." Luigi rested his head against the bars. The two stayed silent for about a minute, the only sound being their breathing.
"You must be pretty close."
"We are. We do everything together. We are the Mario Brothers, after all."
"Makes sense."
Silence filled the room yet again. "Would you like to be famous?" Luigi asked after a while.
"We're both already famous, why do you ask?" Bowser said while unfurling from his ball. Luigi gave him a look. "Right, you want to get to know me better. Well, if you must know, I would rather not. It is a tedious task being a person with such a reputation as myself. If I could turn back time, I would have never kidnapped Peach in the first place. I would be reasonable and just ask her on a date. Though, that probably wouldn't help much." Bowser said as he remembered who he was.
"Same here!" Luigi piped up. "Well, not the kidnapping people thing, the not wanting to be famous thing."
"Really? I'd thought you'd want more spotlight, considering your brother."
"Not really. If I could turn back time, I wouldn't even try to save The Princess. I could do stuff other than being one of the kingdom's sole protecters! I wouldn't have to drop everything every time you'd kidnap The Princess or, in this case, me!" The anger in Luigi's face quickly shifted to fear when he remembered who he was talking to.
Before Luigi could start rambling apologies, Bowser spoke up. "There is a simple solution to both of our problems. That solution would be for me to stop kidnapping people for a while. And no, that doesn't mean I'm letting you out yet. That just means that after Mario saves you, I'm going on break."
"W-what?"
"I'm gonna stop kidnapping people for a while, do you need me to break it down, greenie?"
"But, why?"
Bowser sighed. Clearly, he did have to break it down. "I've been thinking about it for a while. And you answering that question just happened to be the final nail in the coffin."
"You're doing it because of me...?"
"Don't think too hard into it, greenie." Bowser said while turning away. From the corner his eye, he could see that Luigi was blushing. That made him smile.
