Surveying the situation, it's not looking good for us. Renford couldn't get a wormhole open apparently and we couldn't see the Dwellers that were swimming towards their next meal. RIP getting back home. I think to myself before I hear, "They're almost to us!" Saxley yells, pointing at the Dwellers swimming ever closer.
"Curses. Saxley, Zane, Cynthia, get Ezzie and get behind me." Wading through the rising water we all get to Renford as he unloads more shots into the water, hopefully hitting the approaching Dwellers, but out of the corner of my eye, I could see more coming.
"It's hopeless, you know?" A voice booms in my head.
As if a record player came to an abrupt halt, I heard someone say, "Stop, please. Please stop now." A man says in a casual tone as he casually emerges from the forest. He's wearing a large trench coat and a black top hat with a mask with a crescent carved into it.
The raindrops freeze all around me suddenly. The raindrops glistening against a frozen lightning bolt. This is some crazy stuff I'm seeing right now, I think. Looking over the Dwellers have been frozen as well, I could see that they were within a few feet of us getting ready to attack. "Who are you?" I ask readying my sword.
"I'm the one that's here to save you of course! I can't have you dying yet. The game wouldn't be fun if that happened. And for an added bonus, I get to speak with each of your compatriots."
Looking around Cynthia, Saxley, Renford, and Ezzie seem to all be frozen in time as well. "You didn't answer my question." I say, with a shaky voice.
"Oh, where are my manners, my name is Vinieus." The crescent masked man says with a bow. "You're probably wondering how I can stop time? That's not technically true. I can just manipulate mindscapes that have been corrupted by Dwellers. Quite a useful ability is it not?" He says as he walks over and places his top hat on a frozen Renford revealing black hair.
"Let them go!" I say pointing my sword at him.
"Can't say that will do you any good here, but you may try," he says with a bit of humor in his voice. Charging, I swing my sword at him, but before it connects a large thin wall of purple pale obsidian shoots up from the ground and intercepts my sword with a loud *CLANG*. It looks almost like glass, it's so smooth. "Nice try!" The man says jovially. "I think the conversations have all ended so I won't delay any longer. I'll be seeing you again. You might want to take care of Renford, he seems to have gotten himself hurt." He says with a laugh.
Picking up his hat from Renford's head he snaps his fingers. Immediately the rain continues, and the man is gone in a flash. Looking over the Dwellers are gone.
"Zane, come help me. Renford collapsed and we need to get him back to the city." Saxley
shouts.
"Alright." I say running over. He's in bad shape, with small cuts all over his body and a large gash across his chest. Blood was seeping out of the wound like a river.
"Cynthia open up the wormhole!" Saxley shouts. Turning around, she had collapsed on her knees looking up at the rain. "CYNTHIA!" He yells.
Snapping awake from whatever daze she was in she gets up and runs over. "Oh my gosh!" She says with her hand covering her mouth. Pulling out her key she shakenly opens the wormhole. Saxley grabbing Renford jumps into it.
Cynthia looking over her shoulder, seeing that Ezzie is still frozen says, "We need to bring her."
"I'll grab her just go." I say.
"Ok." She looks at me with a shaky nod and walks through. Turning, I hurry over to
Ezzie's frozen form and throw her over my shoulder, and diving into the wormhole, feeling that now-familiar vertigo sensation.
