in the autumn of 1976, london's chill seemed to deepen by the minute, the crisp november air making the city feel alive. for george and his rock band, the london stones, it was an exciting time. their first official album, titled "the city of shadows," had just been recorded and was set to be released soon. this was the era of rock music's ascendancy, with new stars emerging from every corner of the world.
although rock music was often considered sinful by some, one upcoming band was capturing hearts and leaving audiences speechless. it was an unlikely success story - even christians and those who normally despised rock music were taken in by their mesmerizing performances. while george and his band were making a splash in the music industry, this other band was creating an even bigger sensation. they were known simply as "harmony of desire."
"that was incredible, guys, you did it!" exclaimed vince, one of the most renowned record producers of the decade, working for blue moon records. "the london stones have finally finished this album! i have to say, it's some of the best work I've seen since 'paranoid' came around."
"thanks, vince. we owe it to your expertise," replied will, the band's lead singer and guitarist.
"absolutely," chimed in Karl, the band's star bass player. "your guidance and insight throughout this entire process has been great. we couldn't have done it without you."
"you know.. ever since you started those gigs, big-name companies have been taking notice and showing interest in working with you," vince spoke out. george was intrigued by vince's comment. "really? like who?" he asked eagerly. "rock from the rising suns," vince replied, causing all their jaws to drop to the floor. this was the biggest music and festival company of the century.
"what did they say about us?" karl asked."i showed them some of your music, and they want you to play at this year's rock from the rising suns festival. but only if you guys are interested," vince said, beaming with pride.
"oh my god, that's amazing!" will exclaimed, barely containing his excitement. the thought of playing at the biggest festival in rock history, alongside legendary bands, was almost too much to bear. "wait, you mean we can talk to the company ourselves?" george asked, barely able to believe his ears. "of course! in fact, i can even get on a call with them right now," vince replied, looking as though he had almost forgotten something.
vince retrieved a small piece of paper from his pocket, on which a phone number was scrawled. he made his way over to a table in the corner where a mobile phone lay, and quickly pressed in the digits. the group of musicians watched eagerly, their faces a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation.
suddenly, the phone stopped ringing.
the mobile phone was answered by a voice on the other end, "hello, eret speaking from rock from the rising suns. how may I assist you?" vince's face lit up with a wide grin as he heard the voice on the other end. "hey eret, it's vince from blue moon records, " he replied. "oh, hey vince!" eret exclaimed, sounding happy to hear from him. "what do you need?"
"do me a favour here, the big bosses want to talk to the london stones about the rising suns festival. could you put them on for me?" vince asked, glancing quickly at the band, a smirk on his face. "sure thing, dude. i'll go grab them. one sec," eret replied, and vince smiled at the band, conveying a look of 'i did this for you' on his face.
after a moment of silence, vince finally heard a voice on the other end that wasn't just static. "hey, vince! it's dave. you've got them with you, right?" vince could sense the nervousness of the band. "yep, i'll hand the phone over to them," vince replied, winking at the band and stepping back slightly as he handed the phone to george.
after a brief pause, george finally heard a friendly voice on the other end of the line. "hello?" he cautiously spoke up. "hey there, my name is dave and I'm the boss of rock of the rising suns. it's lovely to meet you," the man on the other end replied warmly, instantly putting george at ease. "hey, i'm george. nice to meet you too. i'm the drummer for the london stones," george introduced himself.
