Lydia's POV
I got up out of bed, put on a shirt I found on the floor, and left the room to see what was happening with the world today. I went into the living area to find Bucky on the floor surrounded by baby and parenting books.
"What's happening here?" I asked, sitting down behind him with my legs curled around his waist and my arms wrapped under his.
"I meant it when I said that I was in this. There's some good information in these." He told. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing he was devoted to the baby.
"Oh yeah? How about I take one half of the pile, you take the other, and we exchange what we've gathered?" I suggest, lightly kissing the back of his neck.
"That's a wonderful idea, Darlin'." Bucky agreed, mostly hypnotized by the blissful trails I was leaving around his skin. I was then forced to a stop when nausea hit me like a train. I gathered myself to my feet and scrambled to the bathroom, spewing whatever I had into the toilet bowl.
"Here, sweetie." I heard a gorgeous accent say before two hands held my hair. I relieved myself a few more times before flushing and straightening up.
"Thank you, Wanda." I said, trying not to sound weakened. Wanda brought a paper towel up to my mouth and wiped away the leftovers.
"I'm here for you, Lydie. I have to make up for all the shit I put you through all those years ago." I felt weaker at the sound of the nickname that nobody ever called me but her brother. I smile, trying to cover up my sudden mood change. I went to the kitchen to get something to eat when Clint turned around with a cup in his hand.
"Oh good! You vomited." He pointed out cheerfully.
"Yeah, totally awesome." I said sarcastically. Clint handed my the cup of some weird green liquid.
"The fuck is this?" I wondered.
"That is a drink that I spent a few pregnancies perfecting. It helps relieve nausea." He told.
"Is it any good?" I questioned.
"I wouldn't know. Laura would always plug her nose and knock it back like it was nothing. I works wonders, though." Clint informed.
"My nausea isn't that bad, actually." I said.
"That's a sign that it's a boy, you know."
"Really?"
"Yeah, it's crazy accurate but we'll know when we're halfway there." He laughed. I stared at the glass, clearly not wanting to find out how it tastes. "You know what? We'll try it together." Clint said, taking my glass and pouring some of the contents into another. I nodded and we downed it at the same time. It tasted like snot and peppermint. I stuck my tongue out in disgust.
"That was nasty." I pouted. Clint looked displeased,
"Yeah... not doing that ever again."
I was brushing my hair when Bucky walked in,
"I figured you would've wanted to stay in your pajamas all day." He laughed, looking at the outfit I put on for the hospital.
"Well, we have our first baby appointment in an hour. Wouldn't want to walk in looking like I just woke up." I said. Bucky's face filled with a mix of "I fucked up" and "I forgot".
"I'm sorry, babe but I have plans with Sam. You know, Captain business and all. You said it yourself: I have big shoes to fill." He apologized. I shrugged,
"All well. It's just the first appointment. It's not like anything exciting will happen just yet. The world needs Captain America, so do what you have to do."
"Are you sure? I wouldn't want you going alone." Bucky said.
"You made prior commitments. I'll just have Clint accompany me to the ultrasound."
Clint and I made our way into the hospital for my appointment. Clint sat down while I signed myself in by the name "Lydia Barnes" and joined him at the waiting area.
"Miss Barnes" The nurse called. Clint and I stood and went into the room. I lied on the bed that was slightly sat up, pulling my shirt up to expose my barley noticeable bump. Clint sat in the chair to the left of me while the nurse squeeze blue gel on my belly and ran a device over it. The room filled with the sound of a pulse.
"That's your heartbeat, Lydia." Nurse DeCasto told. She then moved it down a little and a new beat surrounded us. "That is the baby's" I looked at Clint, who had a huge smile on his face. I could tell that he missed this. Seeing him happy made me grin so hard that my cheeks hurt.
"This is awesome." I exclaim.
"How do you feel about it, Daddy-o?" Nurse DeCasto asked Clint, thinking he was the father.
"Oh, I'm not the father. I'm a friend." He cleared up. Feeling a bit embarrassed knowing that Bucky would have been sort of expected to be here, I laughed it off.
"Daddy-o was a little caught up in work. He'll be here next time, though."
