"Momma?" the young girl looked up at her mother, gripping onto her long skirt.
"Yes, my dear?" she looked down upon her daughter, who had been staring up at her with pleading eyes.
"How could I become a mage?" she ginned excitedly, this had been her dream since her and her mother stumbled upon a mage doing tricks for the children of the town. Only for a said smile to be shot down almost immediately.
"Why on earth would you want to be such a thing! Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?" she sighed and knelt down to her daughter, "listen, i get you want to be a mage, but it is a very dangerous thing to do. You have to fight big monsters that can seriously injure you if your not careful." she closed her eyes.
"If you really want to be a witch, maybe we can discuss it when you have everything figured out and have a second opinion, okay?" she brushed a strand of hair behind the young girl's ear.
She kissed the top of her head before standing up and continuing on with supper.
That night, the young girl decided that she would try to find a way to be a mage with or without her mother's permission, and maybe find a magic that won't put her in much danger... She wasn't planning on dying anytime soon, you see.
She will have to go to the library to see if they have any books about different types of magic... Yeah, she'll do that a little later.
ABOUT 3 YEARS LATER
"Momma? I'm going to the library!" she yelled over to her mother, who was sitting in the living room reading.
"Okay, but be safe, dear" was her response.
She was going to find herself a book of magic. If they even sell stuff like that anyway. It's quite rare for someone to approve of magic around here. She had tried to push the need to learn magic down for her momma's sake, but she couldn't do it any more..
Walking down the road, I spotted a new shop at the end of an alley.. That's not suspicious at all..
She decided to go down the alley to check it out.
It was a rather old building made out of mostly stone bricks and a few accents of dark wood on the door and windows.
She looked it up and down a few times till she came across a sign, it read 'magic & wears'.. Hm.
'Magic?' she muttered to herself.
Walking into the shop with a ding of a bell, she saw many things ranging from books to daggers. Weird..
"Hello?!" she yelled, looking for a shopkeeper or someone who could help her.
"At the back!" a gruff voice called, following it, she saw a man with a grey beard and glasses.
"Oh hello.. Eh, I was wondering what kind of magic you have in this place" she mumbled out, this man was kind of odd, she has never seen him around, and she has lived here her whole life.
"Well you can't really sell magic now can you, but I hold some items that assist magic and is the source of such magic I suppose you can say. I have books which hold knowledge of the magic you may be looking for and how to learn such magic and the items you may need." he grinned,"so what may you be looking for?"
"I- well, I didn't really think that far.. I was looking to study up on some magic and learn the one that called to me the most, I guess?.." she smiled nervously.
"Ah I see.. Well, there is celestial spirit magic, perfume magic. Don't ask. Magic cards, smoke magic etc. there are many holder magic that we have and all the books hold more information about each and how to learn it as well as any other magic such as ice, water, fire, air, you know the gist." he finished his explanation by gesturing for Mira to follow him.
"Here is everything you may need." He held his hand towards a bookcase full of many things.
"Could I just get a book with everything in it?.." she was quite overwhelmed with all this information, maybe the book would be best to quickly get out of there.
"Yes, yes!" he sped over to the shelves and picked out an old looking book with a leather cover.. Original.
He handed it over to me, "this is to be back in a month, I trust that should be enough time to learn!" he grinned.
"Of course, thank you, sir." taking the book out of his hands, she bowed her head in goodbye.
"Bye, bye now!"
ABOUT A WEEK LATER
She has been reading up on a few different magics since she got the book and there is a certain one that just seems.. Her.
Magic cards.
It was something she was considering for a good while and had been reading up on the ways to acquire this magic.
Now all she needed was the cards, meaning she would have to go back to the magic & wears shop. Great.
She headed downstairs, "I'm going out, momma!" I yelled.
"Alright, be back by dark!"
AT THE MAGIC & WEARS
"Sir?" she called, why is this man never anywhere noticeable to the eye.
"Ohh, my dear, welcome back!" he quite literally poofed right in front of her, making her jump out of her shoes.
"Gah- how on earth!"
"Magic, remember?" he grinned.
"Right.." she coughed,"anyway.. I have come to appreciate card magic, and I am looking to learn it, so I was wondering if you held any cards in store?" she asked.
"Of course! Just follow me over here.." he walked over to the counter and ducked down.
"Just one second.... Ahah! Here they are," he popped back up and put a small deck of cards on the counter. "Keep in mind this is just a small few, you will collect these as time goes on and as you get stronger, of course."
Hearing that made Mira grin excitedly, she could get stronger?
"How much are they?"
"Well since you are my only customer, I'll give you a bit of a discount 10% all magic & wear you may desire! For today. I still need to pay rent, ya know?" he laughed.
Mira hummed, handing him her money pouch. She has been saving this for a while.. Hopefully it will be enough.
"Thank you, thank you!" taking the money he needed, he handed over the cards.
"Do come again" he shouted after her as she practically ran from the store.
TIME SKIP (ABOUT A FEW MONTHS LATER)
She has been learning this magic for a while now and so far she can only do one thing which is called random throwing, which is pretty much just throwing multiple cards to inflict damage to an enemy.
The other spells are a bit harder to learn at her skill level, but as time goes on, hopefully that will change in the future.
Sure, she was a little disappointed that she couldn't yet do what she wanted, but that's a part of life, isn't it?
Maybe she should just wait things out and train her magic power and see how far that will get her..
Her mother had recently found out, and she had got an hour-long lecture for it. But she said she wasn't going to stop her if it was what she really wanted.
"If you promise me you will be careful while you do this.. I won't stop you, only if you promise, Mira!"
"Yes, momma, I promise." Mira grinned, she was glad that her momma approved, as it has been her dream for as long as she could remember.
"Good, but if I find out you got yourself seriously injured, I'll be going straight over there to slap you silly!" she joked, but there were hints of seriousness in there..
"Wouldn't expect anything less" Mira laughed, hugging her momma tightly.
"Now get to bed, it's late!" she pushed her forward, laughing.
