Are we out of the woods yet? (The GC)

Chapter 3

The group had changed their clothes and were now making their way into the forest to possibly get something to eat. They decided to all go in a group because they knew they were safer together.

Caitlin was still carrying the stick she found last night as she walked alongside Victoria. They agreed to stay in their pairs as they made their way to the forest since it would keep them safer and would stop them from getting lost.

"If there really is a deadly human killing bear or whatever around here then I don't think a stick will help you" Vi said, holding her phone up to try and get service. No one bothered to tell her there were no power lines out here.

"It's not a bear, Vi. It's obviously a werewolf." Jess said. She was walking with Raven a little bit further forward than Vi and Caitlin were so she had to turn around and walk backwards to speak to them. Well, she didn't have to but she chose to.

"Yeah, that's super obvious, Jess" Lisa said sarcastically as she held her stuffed penguin in her arms. She says she brought it for 'comfort'.

Gemma spoke up from next to her partner as Rik and Luna walked ahead of the chatting group. "I mean, what's telling us that it isnt a werewolf?" she asked.

"See? I second Gemma" Jess said, still walking backwards.

"i mean, maybe the fact werewolves aren't fucking real?" Vi scoffed.

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed" Jess teased with a grin.

"Well, I didn't even have a fucking bed, Jessica" She said, rolling her eyes but smiling still. They couldn't get mad at each other, they could be in real danger here.

The only people who actually seemed to be looking for any kind of food was Henrik and Luna, who were still walking slightly ahead of the group and looking in the trees and on the ground for any kind of plant-based foods. They weren't sure they could kill something and then eat it, even the thought made them feel slightly ill.

"What do you think we should do about the van?" Luna asked, looking around the forest. She could still remember the memories from last night when she lost Jess. They had their arm in a sling from the attack to stop him from moving around and making the wound worse.

Henrik shrugged, focusing on looking around for some food. "I don't know, you should ask Jess. She's kind of been the one coming up with the plans" he said.

Luna nodded. "Yeah, I really thought she was gonna die last night. When I heard that scream" he said, shivering as the memory came back to her.

Henrik sighed. "I feel bad that you got hurt, you guys were looking for me and you could've gotten killed" He said.

Luna shook his head with a small smile. "Shut up. I'm the one that got shot, don't make it about you" they joked and Henrik laughed, nudging their uninjured shoulder. He knew they were just joking.

"Hey Jess!" Luna said, jogging up to the rest of the group after a few minutes of walking around. "What are we gonna do about the van?"

"Well, I've been thinking and I came up with a plan" she said.

"That must've hurt" Gemma teased, laughing at her own joke.

"Shut up" Jess laughed, shaking her head. "Anyway, I came up with a plan, we're gonna stay here tonight, in the van until the snow melts, then we're gonna start walking the road we came here on. It's the best way to go because we've seen it at least once. We won't be able to get to a hotel for at least a few days so we'll have to sleep outside" This earned a groan from everyone.

"It's the middle of winter" Lisa complained. 

"I'm sorry, do you have a better plan?" Jess asked, rolling her eyes.

"No, but I mean, we might die of frostbite of something" Lisa muttered.

"That's why I said we'll wait for the snow to melt" Jess said.

"Guys!" Raven called from near the frozen over lake. "Come here"

Everyone made their way to the lake, Gemma and Jess standing on either side of Raven who gestured to the fish moving around in the water. Gemma instantly understood, grinning proudly at her girlfriend. "We can eat the fish! Caitlin give me that stick" She said.

Caitlin handed over the stick and Gemma broke the layer of ice over it. Now, they just had to figure out how to get the fish. "One of us will have to go in" Raven said.

"Not me" Lisa and Vi said in unison. Everyone else let out a hum of agreement except for Henrik and Jess.

"I'll do it" Jess said, before Henrik got the chance.

"Are you sure that's a good idea? What if you like freeze and I don't know, your uterus falls out?" Vi half-joked but she was sort of worried for her friend. 

Jess raised her eyebrow in slight confusion but let out a chuckle. "I think my uterus will be fine" she said as she took her hoodie off. Raven took one of her hands and Vi took the other as they lowered her into the freezing cold water. 

"Holy fuck!" Jess yelled, causing some birds in the trees to fly away. The water was freezing. 

"Don't waste time just get the fish and get out" Luna said as Jess started shivering. 

Jess nodded and reached under the water. Catching the fish was proving to be much more difficult than the teenage girl anticipated and it took her a solid 5 minutes to catch her first fish. She caught three more and decided she couldn't take much more of the cold so Vi and Raven helped her out of the water. 

"This is so Elsa of you" Raven teased before wrapping her jacket around Jess' shoulders to warm her up. 

The group made their way to the van and Jess changed into some dry clothes and wrapped herself with a towel. The rest of the group decided it would be a good idea to move the man's body because it making them feel a little ill but Jess wanted to stay in the warmth so sticking with the partners plan, Raven stayed with her.

"This is not at all how I pictured this vacation to go" Raven said, laughing slightly but not necessarily because she found it funny, she was just laughing to lighten the mood a little bit and it kind of worked.

Jess smiled slightly. "Yeah, me neither. I'm just glad all you guys are okay. Last night was pretty wild" She said

"Yeah." Raven nodded in agreement. "So, you think this was a werewolf? Hate to break it to ya, last night wasn't a full moon" 

"Dammit." Jess laughed, watching as Raven used a knife they found on the hunter to skin the fish. "That's fucking gross" she muttered but soon their was a knock at the door of the van. Raven opened the door to be met with a very out of breath Victoria. 

"What is it? What's wrong?" Raven asked.

"It's Caitlin"
