But Edonia is just a sector of society. The beauty market is big and important, but the rest of the sectors function without these toxic rivalries (you'll see later in the story)
There is a city-state (idk where, CloudLands??) founded 15 years ago, which has started the asteroid mining business and is a massive investor in technological and scientific research. Bacilleans are the ones who got it worse after the Sacrifice age, and they used their economic disadvantage to their favour by casually building an asteroid mining base (as resources are PROHIBITED to be mined from Earth) and boosting their economy; they are seen as a threat for the traditional dominators of the economy, and well, they aren't wrong.
These people were united because of their intellectual ties, and this makes them deadly strategists. After the Lighthouse massacre (claimed to be an accident by the wealthy Seattle people), they wouldn't hesitate to use silent manipulation (there'll be violence, you are warned).
