Serena Martin was born in Boston. Her mother and her best friend, Susannah Fisher moved there with their husbands before starting their families. About one year after settling, Susannah and Adam were blessed with a child. Conscidentally, Marie and Lucas had a little girl only one year later. Conrad and Serena grew up together along his younger brother Jeremiah, but as they got older, the two of them weren't as close anymore.

Every year, Susannah invites Marie and Laurel and their families to spent the summer in Cousins. It's just how it has always been. All of them at the beach house all summer. And this year was no different.

This April, though, Conrad broke up with his girlfriend Audry. No one knew why. Not even his best friends. After the break up, he claimed that the girl would not leave him alone. So he went to Serena for help.

The plan was, they were going to pretend they were dating just for a little while so Conrad could get Audry off his back. As for Serena, she would use it to make a boy jealous. It worked out great until school ended. Conrad graduated.

The two families left for Cousins the day after the graduation so the two kids never got a chance to talk about what it would mean for them when they didn't have to pretend anymore.

And it only gets even more complicating when they reunite with the Conklin family. Including Belly who has had an enormous crush on Conrad since she was a child.
