"Run! Inside!" Steve shouted.
They bolted back through the doors just as the mobs reached the edge of the valley. They had no regard for height or distance. They just fell inside like water into a bowl. The first ones that fell inside became the cushions for the others. Steve and Sam got to the ramparts and watched in horror as the mobs piled up higher and higher until it was safe for them to go down into the valley.
"Holy Notch," Steve said. "I've never seen anything like that."
"The villagers were right," Sam said. "Something has definitely changed. Mobs would never do that."
"Unless someone was telling them to," Steve finished.
The mobs cut through Steve's forest of trees and met with Sam's maze. Sam looked at Steve and handed him his bow back.
"Think we got this?" He asked.
"We have to," Steve said. "I'm not letting my home be destroyed by mindless monsters. Let's do this."
Sam passed him the arrows and ran down to the bottom to prepare.
"Where are you going?" He called.
"I'm making a diamond sword," he said. "Whatever you do, get the creepers first!" Sam shouted. "They'll tear down our wall!"
"Got it!"
Steve notched his arrow and aimed at the first creeper that came through the trees. The arrow made its mark in the head.
Sam quickly took the diamonds and crafted his diamond sword. He looked at the sword.
"Shoddy, but it'll have to do," he said.
The golem walked up to him. It eyed him suspiciously, raising a large, metal eyebrow. Sam caught the golem's look and told him what was happening.
"Not now, golem," he said.
He pocketed the last diamond.
"The mobs that attacked and destroyed my village are here," he said. "They killed my friends, but I'm not letting them hurt Steve. We're going to need your help."
The golem nodded in agreement.
"Come here, pig!"
The pig, now very shy, looked from around the corner.
"Come on! We don't have time!"
He picked up the saddle that Steve had put by the door and put it on the pig. He hopped on. He expected the pig to buck and go wild like they usually did, but it stayed calm.
"Good pig," Sam said. "Let's go."
He led the pig out the door. The golem followed them from behind.
"Sam, I think I got most of the creepers," Steve shouted from above, "but there's still too many! I'm almost out of arrows!"
"Come down! Get ready to use your sword!"
Steve ran down and looked at Sam's diamond sword.
"Think you can use it?" He asked.
"Have to," he said. "We don't have a choice. It's hand-to-hand combat, now."
"We were supposed to have more time. Nothing we can do about it," he said.
Sam raised his new diamond sword. Steve unsheathed his own. The golem stood behind the doors, ready to charge through. The mobs clawed outside, banging on them in frustration. Steve gave Sam a nod.
"Now!" Sam shouted.
The golem slammed through the doors, knocking back the mobs so they could get through the doorway. Steve moved to the right, Sam went left, and the golem made a beeline for the horde right in the middle. As one unit, they all charged forward.
