There was and invisible ball of tears stuck in my throat after all the tears I've shed.

Broken. Devastated. Helpless. Shattered.

Thats what it felt like. After all these events I was slowly but surely dying inside out.

^Flashback^

Police..

As soon as I heard the sirens, I started shouting.
"Help Please!! We're in here! Help!!" And soon I heard them moving in to the house. I was more than relieved to hear the sound of heavy footsteps on the stairs as they approach us. The door burst open and 2 officers came in. " Mam are you okay? What is your name?" They asked as they helped my sister move onto the stretcher which was carried by two nurse "I'm Rayne Morgan. I'm fine but please help my sister" I told them hurriedly.

--10 minutes later--

"Miss morgan?"
I was standing by the porch watching police investigating the house. Charlotte has been escorted to the hospital and I was waiting here for my parents, or any news of them. I heard a authoritative voice from behind me. The owner of this voice was the head of the investigation of this crime scene.
"Yes?" I replied. "Hello Miss Rayne, I am Martin Rodriguez head of investigation of this crime scene. Miss you have to come with me for a little chat. I want to ask some questions if thats okay?" I wasn't sure what exactly he wanted to ask. His face was like a face of statue, no emotion no nothing.

After I agreed, he took me to the police station nearby and into his office I presume. He started "Miss Morgan, do you know what your father was? I mean who he worked for, what was his job?" well thats simple "My father is a very honorable writer. He have written so many books and I've read some too" did he just say was? He was observing me very carefully, after 1 minute of frightening silence, he sighed and said "Well, there is something you should know Rayne. Your Father and Mother passed away"

Numbness.

Thats what I felt. It was like a whole tanker full of ice cold water has been splashed all over me with so much force that almost freezed me to death.

My heart was beating like a wild animal that has been held in the cage and is struggling to get out.I felt something wet trickle down my face. I quickly wiped the tear and tried to be strong but this act of mine was just in vain.

"How..." with all the strenght left in me I asked him. "Now is not the time. But one thing about your parents that you should know is that they weren't the ordinary one. Your Father, Mr. William Morgan was a important agent of CSIS and your mother Mrs. Abigaill Morgan was his partner. The reason that they kept this secret from you two was that this was very sensitive matter, you understand right? They wanted it to be the secret due to security issues. There is danger everywhere in this field waiting out there for one slip and then to consume them in it and thats what have happened child. The danger consumed your parents. I dont know from where did they get information about your parents but I will find them and make sure that they will not remain alive to see the sun anymore" I felt a bit better from my previous state, his reassurance somewhat calm my mind and I felt like I can trust him.

The truth about my parents make the ground beneath my feet to disappear but I somehow caught hold onto the thin air for me to stay put.

"I want to see char, my little sister. She's in hospital, I want to check on her"
He observed me and nodded.

---

30 minutes have passed after our little conversation in Mr. Rodriguez office. Currently I was standing by the door of ICU of hospital in which my sister was. She had a severe injury on the head which also affected her brain and caused haemorrhage.

"Rayne Morgan?" A nurse called out my name from the reception nearby. "Thats me" I walked rowards her.

She told me that someone was waiting for me on the ground floor cafeteria. She said he claims to be my father's old child hood friend and his name was James Richardson. I thanked her and reached the cafeteria.

The first thing I noticed when I moved in the almost empty cafeteria that how hungry I was. The smell of food makes my stomach growl loudly but eating something was the last thing on my mind.

My eyes wandered around the room in search for this old friend of my father but then realization hit me. I dont know a single thing about him. As my eyes were roaming around the room, I saw a man in expansive suit. He was in late 40s and he was watching me. As our eyes met, he waved his hand in my direction and I took that as the cue to approach him.

"Hello, Rayne I'm James Richardson. I wish I had the right words, just know I care alot. I'm sorry for your loss... how are you now?  " In response, all I could muster was a weak smile

"I'm not going to say it's okay I'm fine because I'm not. But I have to stay strong for my little sister and myself. It's just... I'm trying,..... and failing miserably " involuntary bitter laugh from my lips and tear drops from my eyes escaped which I quickly wiped away.

Mr. Richardson was watching me intently and after a minute of silence he grabbed my shoulder in a reassuring manner and told me that he's here for us both that I could trust him, I can count on him. And I did. I did trust him and I felt this fatherly connection with him that I couldn't deny.

After few more little discussions on life and things he said:
"Look child.." he started

"I am here to support you in any possible way. And one thing you should know about me is that I am one of the most successful businessman here in Canada and several more countries... "

Umm... okay?

"....I'm not showing off my wealth but I'm just reassuring you that I could take care of you and your sister. I can have your legal custody since you are 17 right now. So what do you say child? Do you trust me?"

Do I really trust him?
