Taerae was a straight "A" student, he got the highest grades in all of his classes, won 4 math championships, and he was the leader of the schools council. Basically taerae was a genius, which is why this day hit him like a wall of bricks..

It was the exam season, all of the students were preparing for what was, the hardest test in the whole school year. As always, Taerae was ready to demolish the exams. While he was studying in the classroom, his best friend, seunghwan tapped his shoulder. "BOO" he shouted in an attempt to scare taerae, but the boy was unfazed, as he was used to seunghwans silly behavior. "What do you want?" Taerae asked, with a slightly annoyed look on his face, "jesus, loosen up a bit," seunghwan told the latter. "How can i loosen up, exams are coming up and im not going to end up being second..." he exclaimed while breaking eye contact to continue reading his textbook. Seunghwan looked at him with a confused expression "who would even beat you, youve always been number 1", taerae knew that he would be the highest scorer, he just needed seunghwan to leave him alone.

Fast forward after the exams

The school bell rang, it was the day the scores would be publicly announced to the school, taerae anxiously waited for the papers to be taped to the notice board in the main hall. "Bro you dont need to be so nervous" said gyuvin, his childhood friend, while putting his hand around raes shoulder. The older answered "you can never know", even tho deep in his heart he had alot of confidence that he would be the top scorer.

And here the vice principal comes, she tapes the score answers on the board and turns to taerae, "congratulations on winning second place! As expected from our schools genius" she turned around and walked away. Taerae felt his heart sink, "s-second place?" He thought. Theres no way, it must be a mistake! who would be in first place if not THE kim taerae? The smartest student in school!.

The boy goes up to the paper and stares at it angrily only to find out that a junior named kum junhyeon beat him by a mere 2 points. Taeraes eyes started to water, partially because of sadness, and partially because of anger. He knew that this would damage his name and status in the school.

After this incident, he would hear people gossiping about him in the halls, "did u know that a junior beat the schools genius?" Or "looks like he isnt much of a genius afterall" The boy couldnt take it anymore, so he decided to find this junhyeon person.

As taerae was furiously walking down the school hall, he bumped into a student and accidentally spilled coffee over them. "Im so sorry!" Taerae exclaimed, he slowly looked up and saw the prettiest human he had ever seen in his whole life. The students beautiful brown eyes were sparkling in the light, he was tall and slim. Taerae almost fell in love right then and there.

Thankfully the boy didnt take much offense and replied "its okay! I have a spare shirt, dont worry about it", Taerae took a sigh of relief and decided to greet him, "im kim taerae, a senior, wbu?" The boy smiled at him and put out his hand as he said "im kum junhyeon".... Kum junhyeon?....As in THE junhyeon who took the first place away from him?

Suddenly taeraes smile faded away, he stood there like a mannequin as junhyeon was waiting for him to shake his hand. Taerae finally came to his senses and shook junhyeons hand, but that didnt mean that they were friends, rae considered him as a rival, he couldnt even imagine being friends with the person who rudely snatched his title away.

Taerae was deep in his thoughts the whole day, because of that, he couldnt focus in class no matter how many times seunghwan nudged him. Finally seunghwan had enough of taeraes behavior and decided to ask, "wtf is wrong with u today, did ur imaginary girlfriend break up with you or something?", taerae looked up from his desk to look at seunghwan, his eyes were full of sorrow, "jesus, you look like shit" gyuvin appeared out of nowhere, "i know right" said seunghwan, "Leave me alone guys, im not in the mood to talk right now" taerae told his friends and left the classroom looking down. gyuvin and seunghwan stared at eachother in confusion, trying to figure out what the hell happened to taerae.

The boy went home after a long & exhausting day. He showered, ate dinner and went to bed. his brain wouldnt let him sleep as he was thinking about that special someone from school, the fluffy brown haired one with the loud personality and the cute smile. He knew that he shouldnt take a liking to kum junhyeon, but he just couldnt stop thinking about him.

Taerae stayed up all night, pondering about his feelings towards junhyeon, did he hate him? No, did he like him? Also no....maybe. as he was stuck in his thoughts the alarm rang, it was 8am already and he needed to get to school by 9. He quickly got out of bed, swollen eyes , back hurting, hair messy, bad breath. after quickly getting ready, he decided that he would skip school today, to ease his mind.

Instead taerae went to the park, he even called his good friend park hanbin. They went on a walk together, and without even realizing, he told hanbin everything hes been going through. Hanbin stopped, looked taerae straight into his eyes and confidently told him "bro, youre like mad inlove with this dude", Taerae widened his eyes in disbelief, almost like he despised the thought of liking someone he should hate.

As they were walking, taerae saw junhyeon with his friends walking on the opposite side of the fountain, he grabbed hanbins hand tightly and dragged him to the bushes. "What the heck man?!" Hanbin exclaimed. "SHHHH!!" Taerae shushed the latter. "You see the tall guy in the middle?" "Yeah why?" "THATS HIM", hanbin looked at taerae in shock, "you mean like the guy youre in love with?, "YEAH... wait, no im not inlove with him what" taerae stuttered. "Yeah right, noone stays up all night thinking about a person they dont love" hanbin said to taerae who was still in denial.

All of a sudden a squirrel jumped out from the bushes, it made taerae scream and jump from fear, hanbin managed to pull him down before junhyeon and his friends could see him. "Why are u scared of a fucking squirrel" hanbin scolded Taerae. "It surprised me okay?" He sighed. He laid his eyes back on junhyeon who was.. gone? Where did he go?, suddenly a shadow covered hanbin and taerae from above, taerae looked up from the bushes just to see junhyeon smiling down on them.
They both jumped, clearly they didnt expect to be caught.

"What are u guys hiding from?" junhyeon asked while smiling, "you, idiot" taerae thought but didnt have enough courage to say out loud, instead he told junhyeon that it was just a bit too hot so they sat behind the bush. Obviously junhyeon wasnt that dumb and knew that they were lying but he passed it by.

"So, do you wanna get ice cream?" Junhyeon asked taerae. "M-me?" taeraes cheeks flushed, he was burning hot and not because of the heat. "Yes you! Taerae right? Come on lets get ice cream" junhyeon grabbed his hand and took him to the ice cream truck. Taeraes mind was just fixating about the fact that junhyeon, his supposed crush was holding his hand, tightly.

They sat on the bench while eating chocolate ice cream cones. The sun made the cream melt, it got all over taeraes face, "hyung! Let me clean that up for u" junhyeon said as he swiped his thumb over taeraes red cheek, which only got redder after. That action only made taerae fall in love with him more, he was staring at junhyeon while the boy touched his face. Taeraes heart was beating so fast that it almost jumped out of his chest. "There!" Junhyeon said happily and continued eating his cone, while taerae was still blushing abt what happened.

They walked for a long time, getting to know eachother more, which meant that it made taerae fall in love with him even more. Apparently junhyeon was a great cook and he worked at a boba shop down the street, which to his surprise was the street both of them lived in. Its almost like it was fate...

Junhyeon walked taerae to his apartment complex, rae waved as he was going in the building when all of a sudden junhyeon yelled "hyung! I had so much fun today, lets hang out like this more often! Sweet dreams!" Taerae smiled widely at junhyeon, revealing his adorable dimples. They said their goodbyes and went on their separate ways.

Taerae went home in a great mood, he found someone he actually liked, although he was STILL in denial about it, he was never gonna let go of the fact that junhyeon beat him in the exams, or so he thought....
