One Way Out, Chapter 2: Practice
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princess Faine walked slowly down the stairs and passed through the kitchen heading towards the Royal Dining Room. The guards flung the doors opened when she requested to come inside the dining room. Inside, a long wooden table with golden carved flowers decorated the table was seen just in front of the door, the chairs were golden, not to mention the silverwares. A big lit up fireplace was also at the centre. A big luxurious carpet was below the table. The whole room was decorated with live flowers, one word to describe this place, exquisite.
Queen Margaret was already there, glaring at Princess Faine who just got in. Her Majesty’s expression turned from neutral to furious.
“Where were you all this time!?” Queen Margaret said while slamming the beautifully made table. “You’re awfully late! This should not be make of a habit, Faine!”
Princess Faine twitched a bit and bowed as the sign of apologizing. “I am sorry, Mother. I was convincing dear sister Chime to eat. She has not been eating for the past few days.”
“Ah..” Queen Margaret waved her hands and Princess Faine stood back up. “Yes, Chime. She was a delicate flower before King Collians died. What a pity to see her like this.”
“That is not true, Mother. Just this early morning, I went to her room and talked to her. Some of her conscious has come back. She also agreed to eat.”
“Are you questioning my judgment?” Queen Margaret knitted her eyebrows angrily.
“I am sorry, Mother if I have ruined your mood. I should eat my breakfast meal in my room, I will not bother Mother any longer.”
“We do not have time for that! After breakfast I would want you to start with your training!”
Princess Faine sighed and sat beside the Queen. She knew what training that was coming on. Speech training, Princess Skills training, et cetera… she knew very well that she doesn’t really like the trainings. First, because of the strict tutor that has to teach her, Mrs. Katherine. Second, because she just can’t master the lessons, there’s always a slight mistake or big mistake she made and she’ll get scold by Mrs. Katherine’s sharp voice afterwards. It does not give her encouragement to work harder at all.
On her plate was a heavy breakfast meal. Queen Margaret must have known that today would be a very busy day, Her majesty must have requested heavy breakfast for us all, after all tomorrow is her glory day, the day her majesty will be crowned as the ruler of Thrainzine, the small kingdom which was far far away from the outside world, it was hardly known and quite ridiculous to have a ruler of this place.
As the clock strikes 10, The Queen finished her meal and stood up and walked out of the dining room without saying her goodbyes. Such manners, Princess Faine thought.
Princess Faine knew that her tutor, Mrs. Katherine would come after few minutes. Her highness quickly eat her breakfast without caring her manners. She gulped down her food quickly and said her thanks and goodbyes to the servants present there. She ran quickly to her training room hoping that Mrs. Katherine haven’t arrive yet.
The guards opened the doors and when she set eyes on the room. Her hope was crushed.
Mrs. Katherine has already arrived. She was sitting on the sofa crossing her legs, reading her notes. She looked up when Princess Faine set a foot inside the room and Mrs. Katherine stood up but crossed her arms this time.
“You are a minute late, young lady!” Mrs. Katherine said while walking closer towards Princess Faine.
“I’m sorry! I… I was eating and I...I forgot the time!” Princess Faine said in panic.
“No no! not ‘I’m sorry’, say it more proper, ‘I am sorry.’ Repeat your words again! And this time, do not stutter!”
“Yes sir! I-I mean, I understand, Mrs. Katherine.” Princess Faine held her breath and started all over again. “I am sorry, I am late. I was eating breakfast just now…and… I did not take notice of the time.”
“Good, good. Why are sweating?”
Princess Faine gulped and smiled at Mrs. Katherine, but that didn’t convince anything to Mrs. Katherine.
“Well? Why are you sweating?” Mrs. Katherine stomped her one foot on the floor.
Princess Faine knew she couldn’t lie to Mrs. Katherine nor kept silent. Her highness bowed and request for forgiveness.
“I was rushing to this place just few minutes ago, I was hoping I would reach here before you arrive, Mrs. Katherine but it seems that I’m wrong. I am sorry once again.”
Mrs. Katherine rolled her eyes on Princess Faine and sighed. “Why do I ever deserve this” She thought.
“Quick, wipe your disgusting sweats off and start training with me!”
“Yes, Mrs. Katherine.”
A servant gave her highness a small handkerchief. Princess Faine took it and wiped her sweats and quickly started with her walking training.
Princess Faine took at least four books and put it on her head, balancing them slowly as she walk around the room. Just before she can walk up to the stairs that was inside the room that leads to the library upstairs, all four books fell and her highness slowly turned herself to her back, where Mrs. Katherine was standing.
As expected by Princess Faine, Mrs. Katherine was ragging. She told Princess Faine to start all over again.
As Princess Faine started training the second time, she has to add another book but that did not trouble her highness that much. When she was walking about 20 steps, she tripped and the books knocked Mrs. Katherine, who was standing behind her, out.
Now, if you got knocked by five books by some Royal people training you might forgive them just to not make trouble but Mrs. Katherine is different, she does not care about royal positions or whatever. If anyone dares to make her mad, she would scold the person not caring about whoever they are. Princess Faine thought that is why Queen Margaret chose Mrs. Katherine to be her tutor.
Mrs. Katherine looked straightly in Princess Faine’s eyes with anger. Princess Faine can see fire ragging inside Mrs. Katherine’s eyes and her highness knew something really bad is about to happen.
“I am very sorry, Mrs. Katherine! I did not mean it!”
Mrs. Katherine kept silent and grabbed Princess Faine’s shoulder.
“YOU ARE A PRINCESS, ARE YOU NOT?!” Mrs. Katherine made her head closer to Princess Faine’s face. “YOU HAVE NO ATTITUDE LIKE A PRINCESS, MANNERS, WAY OF TALKING NOR PRINCESSS’ LOOKS! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE A PRINCESS!!” Mrs. Katherine released her hands off her highness’s shoulder and flip flop angrily towards the door. The guards opened the door and before she left, she glare back at her highness and said her goodbyes angrily. “Good day!” and marched off.
Princess Faine felt guilty. She knew what Mrs. Katherine said was true. She knew it very well.
“I know I do not sound like a princess, but I just am…I never said I want to be a princess. I wish I could be an ordinary villager…not a princess.”
