Although it seemed unusual for him, that day, Tony Stark had gotten up early to attend a conference at his company, it would be a lie to say that he did so without complaint all morning, but he had no choice after Pepper had left him due to the incident from Aldrich Killian, five months ago, and now he lived alone in his enormous mansion that he had rebuilt.
It had been a difficult period for him since then, after finding himself homeless only three weeks later he had been left without the one he believed was the love of his life, which made him enter a deep depression that led to days without sleep, without eating, more panic attacks, many hours in the laboratory and above all alcohol and the moods and craziness that the substance caused, and he had spent all of this accompanied by his new teammates in New York and his two best friends, who tried during that time to lift it without much success.
But recently it had happened, he had reached what he thought was rock bottom, he had decided that it was time to get his life back on track and stop worrying the people who still loved him and who he considered to be his family, so there it was, willing to live in his rebuilt mansion and dedicate himself as much as his effort would allow him to his company, in an attempt to lead a better-made and organized life in addition to the life of Iron Man, and basically alone due to the absence of his ex. girlfriend.
"Very well, I'm ready," he said, putting on his glasses and finishing adjusting his tie.
Then he remembered that there was no one to say that to or to kiss him goodbye, and he approached, resigned, to the exit of the house, where one of his expensive cars was waiting.
He got in and started driving to the company.
"Mr. Stark," J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice was suddenly heard from his car radio - you has a call from Mr. Thomas Horker.
"Whose?" Tony asked, surprised.
"Thomas Horker, sir."
"I don't know him at all, reject him."
"But sir, he says it's urgent that he talk to you," insisted J.A.R.V.I.S.
"And who assures me that it is not someone from the government who insists that I hand over my armor? No, reject it.
"But...".
"J.A.R.V.I.S., if you continue insisting I'll disconnect you."
The intelligence computer said nothing more and Tony continued driving in silence, arriving in no time.
"Good morning, Mr. Stark," Happy greeted him as he entered the company.
"Hello Happy, good morning," Tony responded, "what do I have to do today?"
"You have a meeting to plan the Science Expo."
"When is it?"
"In two weeks sir."
"Very well, according to me the meeting is in" he looks at his watch "twenty minutes, so I'll be in my office."
"Yes... by the way" Happy stopped him when he had taken a few steps "a certain Thomas Horker has been calling, he says he needs to talk to you."
"That? Here too?" Tony asked, he was very stressed about running the company and those calls only stressed him out more, he was sure it was someone from the government "don't answer anything, tell him tell him... tell him that I died, okay?" he said and went to his office without waiting for Happy's response.
He entered the same room that Pepper was occupying when he had appointed her in charge of everything, he sat in the chair behind the desk and admired the photo he had of her there, he missed her so much, she was the one he feared losing the most in his life and he had done it, all very quickly, since after the fight with Aldrich Killian had been very distant with him, Tony thought that it would go away with a little time, but he was wrong and after two weeks she told him that she could no longer continue living with him, so she insisted and begged her but nothing made her change her mind and a week later she signed the papers to completely return the company to him and left in a taxi, without telling Tony where she was going and today was the day that four months and a week he didn't know anything about her and Tony didn't feel like doing anything, but he tried.
