Two weeks later Nifemi started hearing rumors about her and the strange boy she met  in the hall , rumors about her having relationship when they were young and about them kissing . It was Ruth who told her all about this she was also shocked to hear this about her new friend she always thought that Nifemi was not that kind of person so she asked herself and told her about what she has been hearing “ Nifemi oh my God is it true that you and that boy have kissed before” Nifemi heart skipped before answering the question she wasn’t expecting that kind of question from her new friend “what!!! , kissed? , who ?, what boy?” she was so scared and confused no one has accused her of something this bad she thought “which one do you want me to answer first ? ok I’ll answer accordingly” Ruth replied  “yes everyone has been talking about you and that boy especially the boys like they said they never knew you were bad like this badass girl sorry for the language but tell me it not true right?” tears started forming in Nifemi’s eyes she couldn’t believe that everyone already thinks bad about her . She was breathing heavily and started to stutter “ i.. i.. i  don’t know him , that has never happened before what are you talking about who were the people saying it ?” Ruth took her in the hand and said let go , Nifemi’s heart rate increased like she couldn’t stop thinking about the people looking at her . Ruth took her back to the class to meet the boys who were talking about her , they told her everything the boy  and it turns out that the boy was her class mate in her former school back in Ogun state and Nifemi remembered that they once had a fight and he told her that someday he would payback and when he met her in this new school he did but how would a boy be that desperate. Nifemi had never had anything for boys she always saw them as annoying freaks who just wanted to get on females nerves , she was not even close to her own brothers so she didn’t like associating with boys so much but in her former school this boy was so clingy and Nifemi tried to stay away from him but he was so desperate that he ruined the innocent girl personality in the first week of school. This was a trouble in Nifemi mind for weeks that she couldn’t even look at him without her heart beating fast like she just ran a race she wasn’t even sure if she could tell her mom but her mom found out that she hasn’t been herself and decided to have a little chat with her daughter . She knocks on the door gently not sure if she was sleeping “ hey dear can I come in?” she answered with a teary voice “yes mom” her mom feeling sorry and shocked “hey what wrong why are you crying ? , are you ok ?” Nifemi answered and said “ they think I’m a badass in school mom” her mom signed “language Nifemi” she answered immediately “no mum that what Ruth said because Bob from my former school lied to everyone that … that…” she started to stutter again “ that what?” her mom asked her wanting to hear more . She continued talking   “that he has kissed me before and we have done really bad things when we were young”
“what!!!” her mom was really annoyed “why would a young boy say that kind of thing , you kids are too young for all this don’t worry you don’t need to be scared and why are you even crying you are meant to be bold and not scared of a little boy 1st john 4 verse 18 says fear has torment don’t allow fear to distract you from studying or stop you from being yourself alright ?, you guys are in the same age group when someone lies against you  would stand up to him and tell him what is right okay? Nifemi looked at her mom “hmm?” her mom answered “yes do it tomorrow and tell me the result you are not a baby anymore do not allow anyone to bring you down no matter what okay? Nifemi hugged her mom and said “ okay mom thanks”.

The next day after school Nifemi decided to summon courage and she walked to Bob by herself telling him to apologize to her and tell everyone the truth “ Bob!!! what is happening why are people talking about us in primary school? , do you even know me ?, we were not even friends” she yelled. Bob looked at her and grinned “look who came to say hi” she scoffed “are you ok?” yes I am and look a fight that is not settled means it not finished so ….” he answered  Nifemi  was so annoyed she hissed and left him immediately “I cannot believe this boy”.

She got home and she was feeling more scared and annoyed than before “ so how did it go?” her mom asked “it’s worse” she replied with a low voice “ what !! how?, what did you say ?” she started crying “ I decided to go and meet him after school and tell him to apologize and tell everyone the truth but he was not moved at all he said that a fight that is not settled means it not finished” her mom looked at her shocked “ a fight !!! you never told me you had a fight “ no it not like that he was always clingy and disturbing and I’m always putting him aside anytime he comes near me because no one wanted to be his friend” “why?” her mom asked “ he was weird” her mom signed and said “ Nifemi I have always told you not to pick on anyone just because people do not want to associate with  them  that doesn’t mean you should not , maybe he wanted to be a friend and he ended up doing worse because of the way you treated him.” She paused for a while and continued “you have to apologize first” Nifemi stood up and yelled “ what!! Mom why what he did was not fair” “ yes I know some people can over react and do things out of hand but you also hurt him and the best way to settle the fight is by apologizing you are a child of God and you are not meant to be known for wrong things, two people cannot be dumb in  an argument one of  have to be smart and you have to play that role okay?” she replied with a sad face “okay mom  I’ll try”. “ Good I don’t want to hear another bad news tomorrow alright?” her mom said , she nodded in response and went to her room. Nifemi woke up the next day and felt there was this big grudge on her like she had a big problem to solve and that was true she immediately got up from bed and rushed through the bathroom, she didn’t even pay full attention  in the devotion she was not sure if she was ready to say sorry I mean who yells at a boy and go back to say sorry the next day . Her mom noticed her behavior but she just told her to be calm . She gave partial attention in class practicing how she was going to apologize to the guy who lied against her but anyway she had to do it because of her mom and not even because she thought she was child of  God, you know she didn’t take God important. And immediately after school she left her class and started looking for Bob at that time she felt she was alone even Ruth could not accompany her because she thought saying sorry to the guy who offended you was stupid so she went on her own , when she finally saw him she couldn’t believe she was walking right up to him and saying “hey can we talk?” he looked at her and grinned then he turned back “It important” giving a serious look “ ok I’m listening” he replied . “hmm…. She signed ok so I know I was the one that offended you first and trust me I didn’t mean to hurt you I just didn’t want any disturbance then cause I always thought boys were bad luck… and” he immediately interrupted laughing “what?” she continued giving a light smile “ yes so maybe I passed my boundary when I made jest of you so….. she squeezed her hand tight ,closed her eyes and said I’m sorry” he was shocked he looked at her and slowly tears formed in his eyes he felt sorry for giving her a hard time for so long “ I’m sorry too and I know this had been going on since jss1 and now we are in jss2 but my friends told me to do it when I told them about you during orientation on the first day , I never meant  to hurt you I’m so sorry” Nifemi was surprised that he listened to his friends just to pay back for two years!!!? But she already said sorry so there was nothing she could say than for both of them to accept each other’s apology “ so do you promise to tell everyone the truth?” she said “ yes I will” stretching his hand to shake her . They both shook hands and smiled “ so is it settled now?” she asked “ sure the fight has finished so… yes” they chuckled and left.
