The thick, tangled, branches swirled in the wind, vines stretching from tree to tree, draping almost to the ground. He heard the birds chirping, leaves rustling in the wind, branches snapping under his feet. His ears picked up on almost every sound in the woods he was walking through. The satchel on his shoulder gently bumped against his hip with every step he took. Sunlight streamed in through the leaves, lighting the forest floor.

Just as Allowe reached the crossroads and started to turn, his shirt snagged on a branch, pulling him back and ripping his shirt. As he was untangling his shirt from the branches, he noticed something shiny on the ground. Many people called him Crow, for he collected anything shiny he could find. He crouched to take a closer look at it. picked up the shiny object to study it closer. The object was a key, golden and oddly pristine, not dirt-coated as any object one may find in the woods usually is.  He stood up and brushed off his waistcoat.

He turned, ready to be on his way with his new trinket, and noticed a door, just off the path. It was connected to a structure, like a tall wall cut off on both ends. At first it looked like a regular door. He reached for the handle and tried to open it. The door was, surprisingly, locked. Why was a random door in the woods, leading seemingly nowhere, locked? Allowe studied the key in his hand. It looked like it would fit. He shrugged, thinking he might as well try. He tried the handle again, and it opened this time. He pulled  the door open the rest of the way, and to his surprise, it looked very different from the forest he was currently in .

The door showed a beautiful, flowery meadow, with rolling hills and what looked to be a palace in the distance. He could see a tree overhanging a pond, fireflies floating around the lily pads. As he studied the rippling image more, he realized he could hear the gentle music of a flute, coming from what could only be a portal. Allowe gathered up his courage, straightened his cloak, and stepped through the door.
