Chaper 2-Through the Portal
The world he had just stepped into could be considered a wonderland. The moons dangled in the sky, the stars, glowing in the dark, it was all so pretty. Allowe wandered further in, the flute he heard earlier growing louder. He walked through the meadow, heading for the pond. As he reached the pond, he realized there was a boy there, under the big tree, playing the flute he had heard. The boy playing the instrument continued playing as Allowe approached.
The boy lowered the flute and gestured for Allowe to sit next to him. As he sat, leaning against the tree, he saw the boy’s face clearly. He had a long, sharp nose, with foxlike eyes and a sly smirk, as if he knew some secret, a secret nobody else knew. The pretty boy looked at Allowe, studying him, as if he could see everything about him, his soul, from simply looking at his face and body. Allowe wanted to ask where he was, who this mysterious boy was, why there was a castle just over the hills. So many questions swirled in his mind as he opened his mouth to speak, to ask some of the questions that were nagging him.
The boy pushed a finger against Allowe's lips, shushing him, and looked up. Allowe looked up to see what he was staring at. At first he couldn’t see anything. It just looked like a normal tree. But, as the branches began to shift, he knew almost nothing here, in this mysterious realm, was normal. The small blooms he hadn’t noticed before began to open, a glowing light pink, yellow in the middle. It released hundreds of tiny glowing orbs, floating down around them, lighting up the night.
The boy looked at Allowe’s face and smirked at the look of astonishment as he watched the pretty orbs of light float down around him. Finally, he managed to speak up, swallowing his shock. “Who are you?” The boy smiled, a knowing smile, as if he felt pity for the poor, clueless elf in front of him. “Well, that depends… Who are you?” His voice was soft, gentle. “My name’s Allowe… Where am I?”Allowe asked nervously. “One question at a time, little elf. My name is Ivor. The land we are in now is callled Oakenvale, and that palace over there,” He pointed across the horizon, to the castle, “Is called Springwyn. I’m assuming you came through the portal?”
Allowe looked back at Ivor. “I…think so?” Ivor shifted, standing up. “Well, I guess I owe Lilliana another 25 gold.” He stretched his hand out to pull up Allowe. “I guess my betting luck has run out.” He flashed Allowe a smile, his teeth almost perfect. “We should probably get you to Springwyn. Lilliana will want to see you.”
