"Abhir, itne late kyun ho? Tum hi ek week se sab ko remind kar rahe the ki 'Meera ka birthday hai, Meera ka birthday hai!' aur ab, tum hi late aaye" An angry Muskaan scolded.
"SHHHH!" a couple kids sticking up a happy birthday sign told Muskaan.
"Sorry" Muskaan apologetically whispered then turned backed to Abhir with a stern face.
Abhir gave a weak smile, "Arey wo choro, yeh batao aap yahan aaye kis liye?"
"Tere Abhinav ne bulaya iss liye" Muskaan punched Abhir's chest making him whince, "s-sorry" Muskaan responded, "lekin itna bhi hard nahi tha...Abhir tum mujhe bataoge kya hua ya bhai ko le aao main"
"Nahi nahi, mai batata hoon," he leaned closer to his aunt, "Wo saala Sanjay aageya raaste mein" Abhir explained.
Muskaan's eyes widened, "tum theek toh ho? kya kaha usne?"
Abhir backed away and skimmed his eyes around the dark room making sure no one heard. He took his guitar of his back and slowly unzipped it, trying to make as little noise as possible. He sat down and begun plugging his acoustic guitar to the microphone and preparing it for Meera's entrance.
Muskaan blinked, "Kuch bologe Abhir?"
Abhir looked to Muskaan, "abhi Meera aane hi waali hai, mood kharab ho jayega Sanjay ki baare mein bol ke, party ke bad mai-"
"Abhir" Muskaan gave a no nonsense face.
Abhir sighed, "Uski ek assignment due hai kal, aur yesterday toh exam tha aur uske pehle din hum yeh sab party ki tayari kar rahe the, toh muhe kuch time nahi mile uski assignment karne ka. Toh daat ne aaye, uske upar uski wo girlfriend bhi thi uski sath, toh bahut zyada hi macho-man ban raha tha" He lightly strummed the guitar string on his lap to tune them.
Muskaan gave a sympathetic look to Abhir, "I'm sorry beta, I wish I could do something"
"Nahi nahi, aapka fault nahi hai, kisika fault nahi. Waise bhi, main uski assignment nahi karne wala, wo meri job nahi hai"
Muskaan smiled in relief knowing that Abhir wasn't gonna let himself be a doormat for Sanjay. Then, a thought appeared on Muskaan mind. Knowing Sanjay, Muskaan knew that Sanjay with his anger issues would've beaten Abhir to a pulp, so how come Abhir got out of the confrontation.
"Toh Sanjay ne tumhe chor diya?" She raised an eyebrow.
Abhir didn't say anything for a couple seconds, he looked to Muskaan, "haan, chor diya" He answered, "uske papa ka call aaya tha, aur aapko toh pata hai ki wo aapne papa se kitna darr tha hai" he chuckled nervously, "anyway, aap apne hiding position mein challe jao"
Muskaan didn't believe him for a second, but she left it at this point, she could see behind that calm and gentle exterior was an exhausted boy trying his best to clean the tainted legacy of his parents.
