Chapter Three

I bang my head on the steering wheel. The Universe hates me. And here I thought my day was going great. The Universe had to go and send some telepathic signals to my Dad to call me when he's in a bad mood. I got yelled at and reminded of my place. The Disappointment. Useless, good for nothing, second to The Golden Child.

The Golden Child would be my brother, King. I'm the oldest of four children. Me, King and the twins, Indigo and Iris. King and I were born two years apart. While the twins and I were born with a 16-year difference.

Crazy I know. My Mom gave birth to the twins when she was 39 years old. Now, she has to deal with eight-year-old twins and two kids in their twenties. I'm surprised she's still standing upright. The twins really are something. Mom truly is not to be underestimated. She's a force to be reckoned with.

I sigh and open my car's door. I guess I'll have to deal with Dad sooner or later. I shake my head and leave my car. King never has to deal with Dad. He's always busy being The Golden Child. King studied computer engineering. He wants to start his own business.

I open the front door with my keys and lock it behind me. I climb the stairs to the second floor and head to my room. Ever since I can remember, King had always liked computers. He was-is-fascinated by them. He was constantly trying to take them apart, even going as far as trying to take apart Dad's work laptop. Which is a major no-no. No one is even allowed near it.

Dad was proud. He still is. His son, the one who knew what he wanted to do ever since he was in diapers. The one who is sure to never disappoint him. I don't know what the future holds for me. That apparently makes me a disappointment.

I studied business finance at University of Toronto upon Dad's request. If I wasn't going to pick out my future, then he will for me. He wants me to take over the family company, Soccer Family.

Dad said he got the idea for Soccer Family from his college days. He said he used to love playing soccer with his friends. When he grew up, he saw that families enjoyed playing and watching soccer.

Dad and Grandpa always watched this one team but they lost funding and weren't able to play anymore. Dad said that gave him the idea to invest in teams so they can keep playing. That way everyone is happy. It gave jobs to the players and joy to the fans.

I open the door to my room and collapse face-first on my bed. I thought I wasn't going to like business finance but I discovered that I'm good at working with numbers and dealing with finances. I realized that I might actually like it.

I still haven't told Dad though. He's still dead set on me taking over for him. I roll over on my back. I told him I don't want to, but he won't listen. He says I'm born to take over the company.

He pissed me off so much I rebelled. I went out and partied till I was wasted, I brought guys over like my room had a revolving door and I made sure to tarnish Dad's hard-earned reputation while I was at it. Dad was livid but I ignored him. I purposely avoided him and didn't listen to anything he told me.

Three years into university I realized that my act of rebellion was getting no one anywhere. I wasn't happy and my parents weren't happy. My rebellion and negative attitude didn't just affect me, it affected those around me too. In the end, I decided to stop and try to make do with what I had.

I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. That was three years ago. Now, Dad and I still argue. We still get into fights. Now, however, it's more toned down. We'll fight, then an hour or two later I'll apologize and everything will be back to normal. Well, as normal as things can get after a fight.
