Madison, Mackenzie, Maxine. The three Ziegler children.
Madison, known as Maddie, is the oldest sibling. She's 8 years old, and her passion for dance is incredible.
Mackenzie, sometimes known as Kenzie, is the middle child. She's 6 years old, and she's adorable.
Maxine, known as Max, is the youngest child. She's 4 years old, somehow surviving all those hours in the dance studio.

After all of the kids got home from school, everything was crazy. Everyone was rushing around, trying to get ready for dance. Today was the first day of the competition season, as well as the first day of filming for a new show called "Dance Moms."
"Ow, that hurts," Max complained as her mother, Melissa, brushed her hair.
"Sorry sweetie, I'm almost done," she insisted, pulling it back into a high ponytail. She picked up a red bow from the table, sticking it in her hair. "All done."
Max got up and ran upstairs, despite her mother's pleas not to.
"Everybody have their dance bags?" Melissa asked. Maddie and Kenzie nodded. "Can somebody get Max, she ran upstairs."
"I'll get her," Maddie volunteered, putting her bag down and running upstairs. She walked into Max's room to find her playing with Barbie's. "Max, come on. We have to go to dance now."
"Okay," she agreed, grabbing Maddie's hand and going downstairs.
"Alright, in the car girls, in the car," Melissa ushered, practically shoving everyone out the door.
The three girls all hopped into the back seat, Melissa strapping Max into her car seat. Kenzie had a booster seat, but she was able to do it on her own.
Maddie sat behind the passenger seat, Kenzie sat behind Melissa (drivers seat), and Max was in the middle. That's how the seating arrangements have always been. Oldest behind the passenger seat, middle behind the drivers seat and youngest in the middle.
Melissa walked to the front of the car, getting in and driving off to the studio.

They arrived shortly after, Melissa quickly getting the kids inside the studio. Abby Lee Miller, their dance instructor, was sitting at the front desk.
"Hello," Abby greeted, seeing the Ziegler's enter the studio.
"Hi, Ab," Melissa greeted, and they continued into the studio.
The girls and their moms gathered in Studio A, ready to begin the season. They noticed all of the cameras and cameraman, staring in amazement.
"Alright, girls, it's the first day of rehearsal for the new competition season. Ladies, you all know why you're here. You are the cream of the crop in your age group, and I have lots of new ideas in store. I am going to do something that no other studio in the country does. Every single competition we are doing a new routine," Abby explained, and all of the girls looked at their mothers. "Uh-uh-uh-uh, girls, don't look at your mothers. I am the coach, I am the teacher. I can make you, or I can break you."
Abby turned the chalkboard she had around, revealing a pyramid with all of the girls faces.
