Unknown. May 8th. 10 o'clock at night.
It's been too quiet. I haven't slept in 3 days. After the whole incident and being forced to the hospital... everything has been quiet. Running, running, and more running. After Colorado I figured running would be over but, I suppose, old habits die hard when it comes to my brother.
I wasn't expecting much from him since we had moved here. Just for him to finish school. That's all I asked of him.
I settled into the couch, rught next to our front rooms window, watching the empty street. I kind of hoped to see some miracle out there. Wheather it be my mother rising from the dead, Keeley running from home, or some angel, here to save us from this darkened sky. Maybe even seeing the death of someone is Colorado was worth it. Being able to read those psychos is a hobby by now.
My brothers vouce broke through my thoughts. I turned my head to look at him, his dark circles where worse than last night, his hair was a ruffled mess from tossing and turning, perched half way down the stairs. I took a deep breath before speaking to him. "Why are you up?"
"Why do you think?" He walked down the rest of the stairs and threw himself into the love seat across from me. "There are still bullet holes in the wall."
I winced at his remark. That night was mothing we'd ever experienced before. Who was he? "I'll... stop by the store and get some things to fix it up," I was quieter than I wished. "I plan on going to the police tomorrow as well."
My brother stared at me, wide eyed. William refused to go to the police about anything. Even if I was murdered right in front of him he wouldn't even go to them. I raised a brow, wondering what questions went through his mind after the words slipped from my mouth.
"Go with me." I stood from the couch and closed the curtains. William's mouth hung open.
"What? You're not seriously going to them, right?" William stood up as well.
"We have no other choice." I turned to look at him. Unable to maintain eye contact I wandered to the kitchen, making sure every door and window is locked. Making sure every cupboard and closet is empty.
"Of course we do!!" Will followed me into the kitchen.
"The only other option is to run again," a hint of annoyance was in my voice. "I'm not putting you in anymore danger. We're going to the police tomorrow morning."
William leaned on the island in our kitchen, staring intently at the marble. I couldn't read him. He's no psychopath but I used to be able to know every emotion Will felt. Not anymore.
"I don't want to." William sank to the floor and held himself. He used to do that everytime he got scared as a kid. Hold his knees close to his chest and press his forehead into the bone, leaving red marks behind. I walked over to him and sat down, leaning my back against the island. Only a moment later Will was leaning against me. We say in silence for a few minutes.
"We'll go tomorrow morning."
Summer. 7am, May 9, 1987
I... willingly... woke up at 6am. I HATE SCHOOL. Sine I was up so early I decided to go on a run from my neighborhood to Pattison Lake. From my house to there its not very far. Down hill, up hill, few turns, sharp breaths, and we arrive. Its nothing fancy. Cleaner than the water in London.
I sat down on the gravel and put my feet in the water, after taking off my shoes and socks of course. I'm not a monster. A small white boat was in the middle of the lake. That's when I noticed the man was dumping something into the water. I figured it was just fish but now I'm not so sure. We made eye contact. I lowered the bill of my hat and stood up, putting everything back on. I heard the boats engine start whirring, getting closer and closer.
My heart started racing. I walked calmly to the road, trying not to give him the idea I saw whatever he was dumping. Once I got past the chain link fence I stretched my legs a little to seem more relaxed... then I was off. The fastest I had ever ran. My feet were flying, legs working overtime, heart beating as if there was no tomorrow.
I decided not to turn down my road, just in case someone was following me. I went to the neighborhood next to mine, sprinting behind a house, into the greenbelt, and up to my backyard. I opened the gate to enter, being as quiet as possible but my bloody breathing wasn't very quiet. I sounded like an old dog that smokes 12 packs a day.
"Summer! I've been looking for you! Where have you bern?!" My heart couldn't beat faster even if my host father yelled louder.
"Bloody hell.." I laid in the cold grass. "I went for a run, mate."
"Don't mate me! You know the rules, Summer!"
"I know... but I was so boooored." I got up and walked past the short man, heading inside to get some water.
Then there was a knock on the door. My heart sank to my feet.
